and provide ICID representation / participation. During the period 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011, the following meetings were held:

139th Session of the FAO Council held in Rome, Italy from 17-21 May 2010;
30th FAO Regional Conference for Asian and the Pacific, Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, 27 September – 1 October 2010; and
30th FAO Regional Conference for the Near East, Khartoum, The Republic of Sudan, 4-8 December 2010.
ICID had also disseminated FAO outputs (publications, CD-ROMs, etc.) among its national committees as and when received.
As a follow-up of the MoU signed between ICID, UNW-DPC and FAO in the field of ‘Capacity Development for Water in Agriculture’, a workshop was held on “Improving farm management strategies through AquaCrop: Worldwide collection of case studies” from 8-9 October 2010 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on the sidelines of ICID annual events.
President, ICID held elaborate discussions with Dr. Pasquale Steduto of FAO on revamping of the International Programme for Technology and Research in Irrigation and Drainage (IPTRID) in Yogyakarta during ICID’s 61st IEC meeting. At the initiative of FAO,
a Round Table on “Water for Food Security” was held in Yogyakarta where it was decided that ICID will work in close cooperation with FAO and other stakeholders of “Water for Food Security” towards 6th World Water Forum to be held in March 2012.
ICID partnered a Symposium on Water Savings held in Tirupati, India with FAO and the Government of Andhra Pradesh India, when ICID’s significant role in the global issues like ‘food security’ and ‘water for food’ stood highlighted with the participation of Secretary General in the inaugural and the plenary sessions.
FAO and Iranian National Committee of ICID (IRNCID) hosted a training course on “Mapping System and Services for Canal Operation Techniques” (MASSCOTE) in Khuzestan Province, Iran from 24 April to 4 May 2010. Seventeen Iranian experts attended the training course.
FAO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific organized a Regional Workshop on “Analysis of Sustainable Water Resource Use” in Bangkok from 21-22 December 2010. Secretary General, ICID and Prof. Kim Tai-Cheol (South Korea), Vice Chairman, Asian Regional Working Group (ASRWG) attended the workshop and highlighted ICID contributions on the subject and the role of the ASRWG. Forthcoming ICID events that can look into the subject were also highlighted.
International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
IFAD is a Permanent Observer at the IEC meeting of ICID. IFAD was represented at Yogyakarta IEC meeting by Ganesh Thapa, Regional Economist. He also presented a paper on “Small-scale irrigation and poverty reduction in Asia” in the plenary of the Conference.
ICID President Chandra Madramootoo received an invitation, a usual practice followed since the past three years, for the Executive
Board of Governing Council of IFAD. Vice President Lucio Ubertini was requested to represent ICID at the Session. ICID was also an invitee to participate in IFAD’s 34th Session of the Governing Council held on 19-20 February 2011 in Rome, Italy. The theme of the Session was “Investing in Youth” given the fact that it was the International Year of Youth; an interactive plenary panel discussion was held on the topic “Feeding future generations: rural youth today, prosperous farmers tomorrow”. VP Ubertini took part in the plenary discussions.
World Meteorological organization
(WMo) ICID has a consultative status with WMO and is represented in a number of ICID’s technical workbodies. During the year, ICID had an invitation to the following meetings:

15th Session of the Commission for Agricultural Meteorology (CAgM) of WMO, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 15-21 July 2010;
15th Session of the Commission for Instruments and Methods of Observation (CIMO) of WMO, Helsinki, Finland, 2-8 September 2010;

15th Session of Regional Association I (Africa) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Marrakech, Morocco, 1-8 November 2010; and
16th World Meteorological Congress of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Geneva, Switzerland, 16 May to 3 June 2011.
The National Committees in the region/country were requested to represent ICID in all these cases. Dr. Hafied Gany, Vice President, ICID and Dr. Ir. Roestam Sjarief MNRM, Chairman, INACID represented and contributed on behalf of ICID at the Bali meeting of WMO’s Regional Association for South-West Pacific.
