un-Water Decade programme on Capacity Development (unW-DpC)
A MoU was signed between ICID and UNW-DPC on Capacity Development for Water in Agriculture effective from April 2010 for two years. Later a ‘Framework of Cooperation’ was also signed between ICID, UNW-DPC and FAO; and in pursuance of the provisions contained therein, a joint workshop was organized at Yogyakarta on 8-9 October 2010. Several Case studies in different locations / countries applying FAO’s “AquaCrop” model were presented. The workshop generated useful outputs for the current and future ‘’AquaCrop” users to run the model and to improve the crop water productivity in their individual environment.
During the 16th International Fair on ’Water, Sewage, Refuse and Recycling (IFAT 2010)’ held in Munich, Germany between 13-17 September 2010, UNW-DPC organized a Seminar on “Institutional Capacity Development on Water Management, Water Supply and Sanitation”. un-Water Decade programme on Advocacy and Communication (unW-DpAC)
As per the decision at the 4th meeting of the UN-Water Thematic Priority Area (TPA) on Water and Climate Change, UNW-DPAC would produce a list of existing guidance materials on water
adaptation to climate change. This list would allow the TPA to review what was available so far during Stockholm Water Week before embarking on developing guidelines for UN-Water members addressing key challenges and water-related adaptation / mitigation issues. The Chairs of ICID WGs – PCTA, CLIMATE and ON-FARM were requested to represent and contribute on behalf of ICID. Dr. Mark Svendsen, Chair, WG-CLIMATE represented ICID at the meetings.
Food and Agriculture organization (FAO)
ICID’s strong relationship with FAO is for several decades now. FAO has been regular in its representation in ICID’s annual International Executive Council meetings (as a Permanent Observer). In fact, FAO is effectively represented in 17 ICID workbodies.
ICID was invited to various meetings and sessions of FAO during the year which took place mostly in Rome. Prof. Dr. Maria Elisa Venezian Scarascia, Secretary General, ITAL-ICID represented ICID in the FAO meetings.
When FAO meetings are held away from Rome, the concerned ICID National Committees are requested to send their representatives
