formats for collecting country information. He requested members for their remarks/ additions/ corrections on the draft format. After making a final version of the format of the document, it will be re- circulated to all member countries for filling-up. After collecting and analyzing the filled in information, a special document with the description of specified common problems and features will be prepared with intention to develop a small WG project. For creating data and knowledge base, it was proposed to use the experience of the CAREWIP project and other international projects; present the project proposal at the WG workshop during


the European Regional Conferences in 2011.


VPH Prof. Kovalenko also informed that he has participated in the first meeting of the “Europe INBO” initiative held in France from 23-25 September 2010 and said that there is an opportunity to develop cooperation with this initiative. Prof. Kovalenko requested to all NCs to nominate one young professional to participate in the WG activities. The Chairman may try to organize an international summer school for the young professionals involved in the WG activities.


Working Group on Young Irrigation professionals Forum (WG-YpF)

Mandate: To provide an international platform for young irrigation and drainage professionals and to encourage and promote amongst the young professionals a high standard of professional development in the subjects of irrigation, drainage and environment; to facilitate the development, acquisition and wider dissemination of knowledge and information about irrigation, drainage, flood control and environment amongst the young professionals; to maintain and enhance links with national and international youth having interests in the related subjects or the activities relevant to ICID objectives; and to educate young professionals about ICID’s role, objectives, activities, structure, constitution and Bylaws.

Activities: WG-YPF held its 16th meeting on 12 October 2010 at Yogyakarta in which 6 members and 16 observers participated. During the meeting, Yaser Barghi (Iran) was elected as the new Chairman, Ir. Fabian Priandani (Indonesia) was elected as the new Vice Chairman and Ms. Hayati binti Zainal (Malaysia) was elected as the new Secretary of the Group. Nominations of Dr. Yacob Beletse (South Africa) and Dr. Katsuyuki Shimizu (Japan) for the membership of the group were accepted.

In order to motivate Young Professionals, it was decided to take some concrete initiatives to rejuvenate this group, as today’s young professionals will be tomorrow’s ICID’s pillars. Some of the initiatives could be – selection of one university in each country by the concerned NC to have close cooperation with Young Professionals; making obligatory to NCs to nominate an additional young member in each Working Group of ICID; NCs shall ensure the participation of young professional member in their delegation to ICID events; providing sponsorship and inexpensive accommodation to WG-YPF members, when possible, etc. During Yogyakarta meeting, YPF-INACID hosted the first international seminar intended for young professional on 15 October 2010 in which 14 speakers participated.


The YPF-INACID carried out a seminar with the theme: ”Sustainable Development and Management of Water Resources” on 23 June 2010 in which 40 papers were submitted and the “Top six” papers were presented and discussed in the seminar and the “Top two” papers were rewarded with special awards.
