Congress, papers will be presented and discussed for two Congress Questions, a Special Session, and a Symposium and Seminar each one devoted to specific themes. The detailed information on the 21st ICID Congress is available on the Congress website: http:// www.icid2011.org


Mehrzad Ehsani, the Iranian representative, provided the information on proposed arrangements for the Tehran Congress. The Australian National Committee (ICID-NCA) has proposed to organize a half-day session during the Tehran Congress in 2011. Dr. Tai Cheol Kim, the Korean representative, provided the information on preliminary preparations for the 22nd ICID Congress and 62nd IEC to the Committee members.


The 61st IEC and 6th Asian Regional Conference were successfully held during 10-15 October 2010 at Yogyakarta, Indonesia. More than 500 delegates from 35 countries, of which 196 were foreign delegates, participated in various events. The 6th Asian Regional Conference was inaugurated by His Highness Sri Paduka Paku Alam the 9th / Vice Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region. In all 242 papers received for the 5th ARC were presented in 20 Technical Sessions.


VP Dr. Vlotman (Australia), provided information on the status of


preparation and detailed planning of the 63rd IEC and 7th Asian regional Conference which will be held during 24-29 June 2012 at Adelaide, Australia.


Dr. Sami Bouarfa, the representative from AFEID, reported on the preparations for 24th European Regional Conference (ERC) to be held during 14-16 March 2011 at Orléans, France. Ir. Bert Pijpers, the representative from NETHCID, reported on the preparations for 25th European Regional Conference (ERC) to be held during 16-20 May 2011 at Groningen, The Netherlands


Aliou Bamba, the representative from Mali National Committee, reported on the progress made on the 3rd African Regional Conference to be held during 29 November - 5 December 2011 at Bamako, Mali. The theme of the Conference is “Food security & climate change: How to improve contribution of irrigation and drainage.”


Two national committees viz., TUCID (Turkey) and THAICID (Thailand) showed interest in hosting the 64th IEC and 8th Asian Regional Conference in 2013. However, at the IEC meeting, in a secret ballot, Turkey got the opportunity to host the 64th IEC and 8th ARC in 2013.

Mandate: (1) to develop and strengthen the network among the countries of transition; (2) to organize monitoring and evaluation of common problems in the States that belong to transition economy; (3) to create database and exchange of information about changing situation in Irrigation and Drainage in these States and to attract global and national attention to existing trends affecting global and national food security and wellbeing of rural population; (4) to summarize the experiences in overcoming negative tendencies in organizing public-private partnerships, implementation of IWRM and broad-basing of stakeholder; (5) to monitor the ecological situation in the transition states, including problems of closed basin (Aral Sea, Caspian Sea), salinization and waterlogging, etc.; (6) development of appropriate advance irrigation and drainage technology in transition states and its dissemination through capacity building; and (7) to promote farmer’s training to create awareness about irrigated and drainage agriculture.

Activities: WG-IDSST held its 1st meeting on 11 October 2010 at Yogyakarta in which 2 members and 10 observers participated. Nomination of Ms. Kateryna Shatkovska (Ukraine) as a young professional for the position of Secretary was accepted by the Group. In order to develop and strengthen the network among the countries of economic transition, several actions/ activities were proposed viz. forming a core executive team, establishing contacts by e-mail to exchange information, to develop a proposal for implementation of a small project with regard to capacity building and related activities.
