USING 3P IN LEAN HEALTHCARE FACILITY DESIGN

Using a variation from the Lean manufacturing world, the Production Preparation Process (3P) is one part of an overall Lean design approach that includes the rapid testing of ideas and the embedding of Lean principles into process and workspace design in the shortest time possible. With primary focus on patients, the 3P approach challenges us to reinvent the healthcare experience from the ground up –for patients, physicians and staff – to achieve breakthrough results in satisfaction, patient safety, clinical outcomes and operating performance.


In this session, the topics covered:  Differences between traditional production preparation approaches and 3P


 What is 3P (Production Preparation Process)?  Looking at layout designs that dramatically improve the 7 flows of healthcare


 The focus on the patient experience in the healthcare design  How to use a process evaluation criteria in using the 7-3-1 method to selection the best design


 Seeing the application of life-sized scale modeling to evaluate design options
