“Thumbs down on Warren Buffett’s call for new taxes while he and other millionaires/ billionaires doge their existing fair taxes using from income derived from tax free Municipal Bonds and the Charity Loophole in existing tax code. It isn’t that funny that the burden of his proposed higher taxes falls squarely on the backs of Middle Class Americans and not Mr. Buffett or his cronies. Mr. Buffett you’re what is generally referred to as a hypocrite!”
“Thumbs up....a huge ‘thumbs up’ to Salem
Police Officer Rick Nicosia. On one of my worst days ever I ran out of gas and had no money at all. AAA came to help me, but being in a bad spot on Millville Street, Officer Nicosia stayed with me, made sure I got home safe and showed true caring compassion. His demeanor, professionalism and generosity did not go unnoticed. Officer Nicosia, you know how to pay it forward and literally brought me to tears. You are a fine example of Salem’s finest, and this will never be forgotten. Thank You!!”
“Thumbs down, a big ‘thumbs down’ to the
developers of yet another building on Stiles Road (what will be #31). With all the ‘for sale’ and ‘for lease’ signs up and down the street you still feel the need to rip out what little forest we have left around here. Disgusting. Really, there had to have been a better option.”
“Thumbs up to Big Guns Power Washing, I
saw their ad in the Patriot and was extremely happy with their service, and most importantly how great my deck and roof look! I am one happy homeowner now that my house looks new again. Thanks Big Guns!”
“Thumbs down to whomever is responsible for the traffic signals at the Lawrence Road, Hampshire Road, Lowe’s, Aztec Restaurant, Route 28 intersections. If the Town of Salem
All Brands Available

paid anything for coordinated traffic movement at this interchange they got ripped off. It looks like there are camera things all over the light stanchions but they can’t be working because if someone was watching, they would see how screwed up traffic is thru the area especially in the early morning. Short light cycles while cars are still waiting. Long green cycles with no vehicles moving. Many mornings, @5:30 am (when I go to work) the green cycle to
come out of the Mexican Restaurant is longer then Route 28 SB. There isn’t anyone in that restaurant parking lot at that hour. Green light for 28 SB in front of Lowe’s sometimes is only 8 seconds and there is no other traffic on any of the access streets. People are driving around the triangle building to avoid the long red light sequence for 28 SB @ the new CVS. Sure could use some improvements as sitting idling, wasting gas that early in morning is a lousy way to start a day.”
“Thumbs down to the State Rep that lives on the corner of North Main and Atkinson Road. I think you know I am talking about you Mr. Belanger. All I can say is WOW I was following this State Rep down North Main on Friday night when he pulled over allowing me to pass him then proceeded to pull in behind me, put his high beams on and tailgate me up the road until he reached his driveway. Three lessons to learn here - 1.If you don’t think you should be driving you probably shouldn’t, ‘D.U.I sucks.’ -2. You don’t know who is in the other car ‘Road Rage happens’ -3.Take your State Rep plates off if your gonna drive like an idiot, it is not the way to represent!”
“Thumbs up to DJ’s neighbor for last weeks’
post. Mr. Fred Rogers would be very proud of you for being so ‘neighborly’ and coming to his defense. But please, don’t lie, it has been confirmed many times over that DJ and Ms. Shutts reside and pay rent together in Pembroke NH. This has nothing to do with party politics, for the record I am an Independent. It’s about ethics and obviously they are lacking in the Majority Leader and several others who allow this conspiracy to continue.”

with family and kept our young children from falling asleep til long after 9. And to all of those who are going to ‘thumbs down’ me I have a suggestion. Send your addresses to the school and let them play in your backyards! Why can’t they go practice over in the Industrial park where they won’t bother anyone?”
“Thumbs down – To the person blaming the Salem Police for releasing an arrestee on $340.00 cash bail. The Salem Police do not set bail, agents of the court known as ‘bail commissioners’ set bail. Police do not set bail as it would be a conflict of interest. Also, bail cannot punitive, it is only to ensure appearance in court. Many factors go in to deciding bail including crime(s),criminal history, court defaults, NH resident or not, etc. In many cases we (SPD) feel bail should be set higher. – Deputy Chief Shawn J. Patten, Salem Police Department

“Thumbs up to our friend Stephanie Micklon at Salemhaven. We wish you a very Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day! From your favorite Editor and Sales Rep!.”
“Thumbs up to Dan winning the trophy at the Elks night on a Thursday night for his Buick Skylark. Great job you deserve it!”
“Thumbs down!! To the person who wrote about the Derry Salem Bike Blessing and the Texas Barbaque! How do you know that anyone was drinking more than 1 or 2 drinks? The Police were there! If anyone had too much to drink they would be arrested as soon as the key went into the ignition! What? This is not prohibition! Children see their parents have a drink or 2 responsibly all the time! Some people do pour their drinks in cups! Did you read the August 12th issue of the Patriot? About Kidfest and all the children (30) that went to camp for free? Or the 100 huge food baskets that are given at Christmas? Much is donated to the Veterans in Manchester VA Hospital. What? All the fundraisers are done by volunteers who donate their time. So all the charities and children and veterans of the area are taken care of! I was at the BBQ and I saw no one intoxicated. Everyone had a wonderful time. What? So before you write a nasty piece about the Derry Salem you should investigate all the fundraisers and what they are for! Charity -- what?? Helping others. What?? What do you do for the charities of the community? Watch TV?”

“Thumbs down to the Salem police. If they need money as bad as these people are calling me all the time say for the benevolent police thing and support the family of officers on duty, then what they should start doing is something they are really delinquent on. That is giving tickets to people who are parked in the ‘fire lane only.’ They sit there, read newspapers, smoke cigars or whatever, and I have seen the police on 2 occasions go right by them (they must be late for their coffee break) but if they need the money that bad, ticket the people who are in the ‘fire lane only’. Wake up Salem PD!”
“Thumbs down to the local newspapers regarding this entire hullabaloo about DJ Bettencourt. First let me say I am not a democrat, in fact I’m a republican. DJ Bettencourt may do a great job in Concord representing us but that does not negate the fact that he has been living in a different town than Salem. Maybe the local papers should do some investigating on their own, just call his former landlord. Another question that need to be answered by the local press: What was he submitting to the state for mileage reimbursement? Was there any fraud involved? Is someone from Concord in an official capacity looking into it? Why has this all been hushed up? Why is everyone so defensive about it? Somebody just answer the question and we can all put an end to this issue.”
“Thumbs up to Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt (R-Salem), the fact that 61 hundred new private sector jobs have been created the past two months can be directly attributed to the pro-small business, fiscally conservative policies he has been promoting since December.”
“Thumbs up to Representative Bettencourt and Selectman Campbell for once again taking on Governor Lynch and fighting against tolls in Salem. Note to Selectman Roth, you might want to get on this!”
“Thumbs down to Governor John Lynch
who is once again trying to erect toll booths in Salem, despite the fact that he told us he didn’t support tolls. Once again, Lynch lied. Thankfully we have Executive Councilor Chris Sununu and Representative D.J. Bettencourt in Concord to fight for us.”
“Thumbs down to Stephen Campbell for being such an opponent of progress. He claims to represent the ‘little guy’ but certainly doesn’t represent the interests of the little boys and girls in our schools, nor does he care about the best interest or future of our Salem community. He twists what people say to his advantage. He maintains a Facebook page so he can bash the rest of the Board of Selectmen (except for Pat Hargreaves) and provide a forum for inappropriate comments to be posted. His behavior as a Selectman is unprofessional, small-minded, and divisive. It is clear that he is not interested in moving our town forward. And how can he be, when he expresses the desire for Salem to return to the way it was 40 years ago?”
