MORE TARKA LINE WALKS
WHEN the Tarka Rail Association were seeking a writer to produce a guide to Tarka Line Walks, which all start from the wayside stations of North Devon’s scenic line, Peter Craske from South Tawton proved to be ideal for the job. He had known the line since 1945, possessed a love of the line and the area and believed he could inspire others to discover and share that love.
Line Walks, contains 22 self- guided walks from stations along the line that runs 39 miles from the River Exe to the Taw estuary. Beautifully written and produced, it was acclaimed the Best Marketing Publication from among 60 entries in a nationwide competition in 2009 organised by the Association of Community Rail Partnerships.
Tarka Line Walks has since had a third print run, and its sister volume More Tarka Line Walks has now made its appearance. The format of this second booklet is identical to the first: 52 pages in full colour, 22 new self- guided walks from each of the 11 wayside stations along the scenic North Devon Tarka Line. The length of walks are from 3 to 8 miles and taken together, the two booklets provide the reader with more than 230 miles of Devon lanes and footpaths to explore.

The extensive information
provided by Peter about every one of the walks was gained by him step by step along the way, accompanied often by friends and a motley assortment of middle-aged dogs. For those following in his footsteps, the notes provide not only directions but reminders of the history of the area, the turnpikes that gave way to railways, items to be observed, and sights not to be missed.

Both booklets are now available, free and postage- free as long as stocks last.
