INDEX wedding special

It’s vital to decide on a budget before you go dress shopping as the price range in many bridal shops is vast and you don’t want to fall in love with a dress that you can’t afford – heart- breaking! Make sure, though, that you try on lots of different styles, as many brides end up picking a dress that’s the opposite to their first ideas. If you’re getting married in autumn or winter, consider teaming your dress with a fake- fur wrap, shawl, bolero or even a majestic velvet cape. Or think about having a sleeved dress made in velvet or a thicker duchesse satin to keep you warm. You don’t want to make any rushed decisions, so book dress appointments as soon as you can. Like many brides, you may find yourself torn between two dresses. Some boutiques may allow a friend to photograph you in the dress – don’t be afraid to ask as it’ll come in handy when it comes to picking ‘the one’. Before you make the final decision make sure you consider any additional costs. Will there be any alterations charges? How much will your veil, shoes and accessories be? Going bespoke will allow you to create your dream dress.

The Dress

Consider a cream or off-white shade as it’ll go perfectly with the rich colours for your wedding theme.

Menswear It’s important for the groom to look his best on the day – but, remember, he’s not in competition with his bride! Decide whether you want to hire or buy your suit. Bespoke tailoring in particular can be very expensive. If you’re hiring, make sure that there’ll be enough suits available in stock so that your groomsmen can also be kitted out. If the shop offers accidental cover on all wedding attire, take it! If you’re buying, shop around: the high street is offering more off-the-peg tailoring, as well as made-to- measure suits, which make an affordable choice. Don’t leave it until the last minute, though. There are many different fabrics, colours and styles to choose from and it’s vital that you co- ordinate with the rest of your wedding theme. Start looking at wedding suits around six to nine months before the wedding date to ensure that there’s enough time to get properly fitted and make sure you feel completely comfortable in your suit.
