BRONZE FOR SCOTS AT CHILDREN’S GAMES

member Niall Jarvie participated in a 12-hour badminton marathon at Bell’s Sports Centre in aid of Cancer Research UK. Several days after the challenge I chatted to Niall, who told me he had played a total of 53 games in which he was proud to say he won 41 of them against friends and work colleagues. He did stress to me that he is still recovering from the hours spent on court but well worth it and has already raised around £600 and thinking about his next challenge.Well done, Niall.

from Bangkok took gold in the girls’ doubles final when they beat opponents Chia-Hsin Lee and Shuo-Yun Sung from Taipei into silver. But there was a reprieve for Shuo-Yun Sung
when she took gold medal in the mixed, partnering Yang Tien to a 7-21 21-19 21-18 victory in the final over their teammates Chia-Hung Lu and Chia-Hsin Lee. It was an all Taipei final in the boys’ singles with
gold going to Chia Hung Lu who beat Yang Tien 21-14, 21-14. Securing bronze wereMing Shun Tan and Loh Kean Yew, both of Singapore. Coming out on top in the girls’ singles final was
BusananOngbamrungphan of Bangkok who beat Chia Hsin Lee of Taipei. Picking up bronze medals were Clarabelle Koh Pei Lin andMarisa Ng of Singapore. And there was drama in the boys’ doubles as a
close fought match resulted in a win for Kittinupong Kedren and Adulrach Namkol from Bangkok with a 21-16 21-19 scoreline. They faced tough opponents Chia-Hung Lu and Yang Tien from Taipei who were awarded silver. Taking bronze were Artern Grazhdankin and Rodion Vasilyer of Russia andMing Shun Tan and Loh Kean Yew from Singapore. Earier in the afternoon the medals were handed
out in the team competition with Bangkok taking gold while Taipei won silver and Singapore secured bronze. Team Bangkok beat Taipei 3-2 in the final with
Singapore winning 5-0 in the bronze medal play-off against the Russian team to secure their third place spot. Full results can be found at
