JO ELLEN HAMILTON PROGRAM COORDINATOR FOR CLINIC OPERATIONS MAYO CLINIC

Years in Rochester: 6

Hospitality role: Serves on Hospitality First committee to train frontline staff for Destination Medical Community and helped build training curricu- lum, started networking group for Community Tourism Ambassadors.

On Mayo Clinic: I love Mayo. I really love working there and being a part of something special and making a difference in people’s lives.

On Destination Medical Community: For the first time, the front doors are open, and there is communication going both ways. The frontline staff are excited and they can enjoy their job more. Rochester has 2.7 million visitors annually, so there are 2.7 million opportunities to make a difference in people’s lives each year.

Why Rochester? It has big city amenities with a small town feel. People here are open, honest, and genuinely care. Visitors recognize that. There is a family feeling to this community. We’ve all been impacted in some way by the patients at Mayo Clinic. We can provide hope and help. People here go that extra mile to make it right. What’s cool about that is that I get to experience it, too, because I live here. We don’t differentiate between patients and others.

Rochester favorites: This community has so much to offer—bike trails, Goonies’ comedy club, Söntés for quiet get-togethers, Newt’s for burg- ers, Canadian Honker for music on weekends, Thursdays on First to meet friends, and shopping.
