“Thumbs up to the Hudson REC program for a great offering, with wonderful and caring supervision. The cost of the program only makes it a greater deal, along with the great, low cost field trips. I am almost at a loss for words with some of the recent comments about your program. If you want a licensed program, with a person to tell your little Johnny/Suzy to wash their hands, along with an a/c’d motor coach; you need to start searching then when you find it, chum up a couple thousand $. But, NO - you would rather complain! So, why do you still send your child to this obviously terrible and untrustworthy program? Keep up he good work Hudson REC and the rest of the departments in this well maintained community!”

“Thumbs up to the Nate’s Race this year!

It’s a joy to see a town of all ages supporting a great cause by running or walking. Great job to all volunteers and huge ‘thumbs up’ to Ross and his wife for making this race another success! Keep up the great work Nate’s Race!”

“Thumbs down to the person commenting

that working moms are better parents then stay-at-home moms in last weeks column. The comment that really flamed me was ‘the advantage of stay-at-home parenting declines after children reach the age of five.’ The quality of stay-at-home parenting only declines when you, the parent, become dissatisfied with staying at home. I have been a stay-at- home mom since my first child was born, not out of choice but out of economic necessity.

worked odd jobs around their schedules and went back to college part time for my degree, living on one income. It was difficult, we sacrificed and went without fancy cars and a huge house but it was worth it to know that I never missed a single milestone in either of my children’s lives. My children are happy and not without, they will both go to college and we will work hard to send them there. You’re larger paycheck and more billable hours do not make you a better parent then me. --A proud (yet tolerant) stay-at-home mom.”

“Thumbs up to Carol and Don the lovebirds

who celebrated their 41st anniversary recently, may you have 41 more!”

“Thumbs down to the growing number of bicyclists. These people are the rudest, most discourteous, arrogant and foul mouthed group of people to be found anywhere. Swearing at people and giving the one finger salute and with their children present. Quite a lesson for the children. You should be proud of yourselves. All one would ask is that you share the roadway and do not act as if you own it. Please try to remember that we chose to live in nice areas and pay higher taxes to do so. We do not need your group coming to our neighborhood like you are the only people there. I hate to paint with such a broad brush but it seems as the number of bicyclists grows so do rudeness and arrogance. Please grow up and behave like the adults you purport to be.”

“Thumbs up to my wonderful husband, Jim B., on his new job. You deserve it! We are so proud of you! Love you, Bridgett & the kiddos.”

“Thumbs up to Jerry G.’s letter in regards to

the building/code enforcement incompetencies in Hudson. As a former town business owner, it was shocking how the town was inconsistent in equally enforcing building/licensing/ and code enforcement. To the point where my business could not compete with townies businesses and I had to close down. We the voters need to turn out to vote and create a statute of limits on how long residents can serve on town’s boards and as selectmen/ women. The town is going downhill and the people running the show need to step down and make way for change and new blood. We also need some competent well-educated volunteers to run the show, I tried but the vote count was incorrect... they didn’t want me on their show for fear of the truth being exposed. You can’t trust this town or the people running it.”

“Thumbs up and a big thank you to Kendall

Pond Pizza for supporting the 12U during their World Series Fund Raiser!!”

“Thumbs up to moms and dads who both

work full-time because it is the only way they can provide for their families on their combined incomes, sometimes even carrying more than one job each. You are teaching your children invaluable lessons in self- sacrifice and love. ‘Thumbs up’ to families with one spouse working full-time and the other home with the children full-time. You are teaching your children invaluable lessons in self-sacrifice and love. ‘Thumbs down’

Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down? “We want to be your Mechanic”

to moms and dads who both work full-time only because they prefer it, because they are unwilling to make sacrifices, or, worse, because they have convinced themselves it is better for the children than having one parent at home. You are deluding yourselves. And, yes, you are teaching your kids the ‘value of money.’ Money equals time. Spent away from them.”

“Thumbs up to my husband, Josh C. for all of the hard work, time, and attention you put into the Camaro. Congratulations on being featured in Whip’s Wheels; you deserve the recognition! I love you babe!”

“Thumbs down, way

down to raising taxes to pay for Benson’s Park. I see more and more MA plates at the park and I for one do not want to pay higher taxes to beautify a park for them. We do live in Hudson, NH not Lowell, MA! Here’s a thought…charge admission to the park on weekends. This would give a teenager or two a part time job collecting the admission and we could use the money to upkeep the park.”

“Thumbs down to complaining about the REC. It’s not a ‘daycare facility.’ If you want your child to be followed around, sun-block reapplied and handing them water, pay for daycare. Counselors are there to keep kids safe, not to hover. If they’re overheated, stay indoors, if they’re thirsty, get a drink! If they remained outside all day then that’s their fault, not the REC Center. If you have issues, don’t bring your kids!!! You’re going to ruin this program for all of us who love it! Are you the same parents who complain cookie monster promotes childhood obesity too?”

miss him when he goes to college far, far away from here. ‘Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.’ - Wicked.”

“Thumbs down to the Hudson girls softball

league. All season long there was not one single article regarding the senior division. Then the all stars came and went and same as the championship, not even a picture. I guess none of these girls in the senior division deserve any recognition for their accomplishments all season long. ‘Thumbs down’ Hudson softball league.”

“Thumbs down to Campbell High School’s Administration for attempting to plan a Senior trip to Hawaii. Are you serious? There is over 9% unemployment and the Litchfield foreclosure rate is increasing, how can anyone in their right mind suggest a trip to Hawaii? Despite what you say, kids whose families are barely making ends meet will pressure their parents to go, possibly pushing the entire family to financial ruin. Go to Boston, Philadelphia, or even Washington D.C. but during these bad times don’t go somewhere like Hawaii, Europe, or back to Puerto Rico.”

“Thumbs up to my wife Kathy who worked so hard to make our son’s wedding such a huge success. Also ‘thumbs up’ to my Son Brian and his girlfriend Liz who worked so hard to help make this happen. Lastly, a huge ‘thumbs up’ to my son Bill and his bride Ann, best wishes to both of you. --Dad.”

“Thumbs up, way up to all the generous people who stopped by our children’s lemonade stand on Century Lane!!! Especially, to those who just donated money!! All of the proceeds are going towards care packages for our soldiers!!! Thanks so much!!!”

“Thumbs up to our children for being so kind and caring. Their lemonade stand started out just for fun and then turned into a successful fundraiser for our soldiers! Mama and Daddy are soooo proud!! We love you!!”

“Thumbs down to the Hudson people who go around spraying weeds near the sidewalks.. what good does that do?”

“Thumbs up to love! I hate it when close- minded people say that marriage is between a man and a woman. If two men (or two women) love each other and can establish a solid relationship, why can’t they marry? Don’t support ignorant hate, support love of all shapes, sizes, and colors. :)”

“Thumbs up to Glen Coco! You go Glen Coco!”

“Thumbs up to Eli Gavin Rau! He has been the most wonderful friend and I am gonna

“Thumbs up to Jerry for finding my bird Brewski and returning him I really appreciate all the support the Hudson PD and the dog catcher have given me finding my bird. I really appreciate it! Thank you, a big thank you and I love you all!!! --Gladys.”

“Thumbs down to whoever from Whippoorwill estates complaining they can’t get in or out of the estate because of the yard sale across the street. I’ve never had a problem getting in or out of Whippoorwill because of the yard sale. The only reason I have trouble getting in or out is because people drive 65 on that stretch sometimes faster when the posted 35mph signs are up. That is the problem, people speeding up and down that road. Police should take notice, they would probably give out 100 tickets in a couple of hours.”

“Thumbs up to the friendly people at Century Farm who make terrific brambleberry pies. And ‘thumbs up’ to the person who picks the brambleberries in spite of all the brambles.”

“Thumbs up to Marsha and Ken celebrating

their 30th anniversary, what a beautiful couple. Mommy is so proud of you!”

the two tennis instructors for The Town of Hudson! They are great with the kids and they have taught them so much in two weeks. Thank You for being so patient and encouraging, can’t wait to come back next summer!”

“Thumbs down to Massachusetts Senator

John Kerry for his demonization of the Tea Party. Senator Kerry, in my opinion, represent Massachusetts well in that he: arrogant, elitist, doesn’t pay his fair share of taxes, registers boats out of state, and is completely out of touch with the middle class. Fortunately, even New Hampshire’s worst Senator at least occasionally listens to her constituents rather then boating in a yacht moored in Rhode Island (for tax purposes).”

“Thumbs down to the woman with the New Hampshire tag ‘MY3PUGS’. Are you trying to kill someone? On Tuesday August 9th in Hudson cutting off several cars and driving down the incorrect side of the road then crossing traffic and cutting more people off! I hope the police catch up to you and your horrible driving.”

“Thumbs down, wayyyy down to the a$$ that stole my checkbook. Yes I might have been a fool for forgetting it but the right thing was to give it to the Hannaford store service desk. I am not rich I live like everyone else. You will be taking food out of the mouths of my family and taking the roof off their heads, so please do the right thing by returning it. You know who you are.”

Tea Party: ‘This is what I mean by my constant insistence on ‘moderation’ in government. Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.’ President Dwight D. Eisenhower Source: The Presidential Papers of Dwight D. Eisenhower, November 8, 1954.”

“Thumbs down to the HLN for promoting bullying with the publications in ‘thumbs down.’ Excellent mentors for our children.”

“Thumbs down to the marquee at the Rodgers Library in Hudson, it is incorrect. It should read ‘cobweb’ not ‘cowweb.’ No such word as ‘cowweb.’”
