JOSHUA FOWLES AGE: 25

POSITION: WING HEIGHT: 6FT 3” WEIGHT: 15ST

CLUB: MACCLESFIELD

N-U-L RUFC age 9 – 19 2006/7 & 2007/8 – Broadstreet 2008/9 – present Macclesfield attribute

Josh first showed interest in rugby from a very young age watching his father play outside centre every Saturday at his local club. Eventually Josh developed the desire to get involved and began playing at local team ‘Newcastle-Under-Lyme’, aged 9. In the early stages of his playing career at Newcastle, Josh

played regularly at scrum-half or fly-half, but throughout the seasons not only did Josh’s style of play and physical attributes change, the position he played did too. Aged 17, with his speed and physicality, he was considered ‘a modern day winger’. His raw natural ability along with his desirable versatility meant that, in 2006, after 10 years playing for Newcastle, Josh took the step up and signed for Broadstreet (Midland League 1) whilst studying a Civil Engineering degree at Coventry University. During his two seasons there Josh played in every game and established himself as one of the top try scorers in the league. However, it is playing 7s where Fowles ‘comes into his own’ as he relishes the vast open spaces and quantities of ball available throughout the game, which in comparison to 15’s as a winger are simply not available. During his first year (summer 09) of playing

7s at a competitive level, Fowles represented ‘Akuma Scorpions’ in several national tournaments including Manchester, Newquay, West Country and Bury St Edmunds. Towards

the end of that 7s season Fowles played for Sale sharks at the Middlesex 7s tournament where they won the plate. As a very desirable 7s player Josh has

since played for ‘Templars’ in the Dubai 2010 competition. One of the highlights of his career was winning the Amsterdam 2011 7s with HFW Wailers who have recently built a dangerous team, and have quality players in abundance. Fowles was also among the same HFW Wailers team who won the plate at last month’s Middlesex 7s. Following his graduation from university, the

2008/9 season saw Josh relocate back to the Staffordshire area and sign for Macclesfield RUFC. Josh is now training and preparing for the oncoming season which will be his 4th at the club. During this period Fowles has played a key role in assisting Macclesfield to gain promotion from National division 2, scoring numerous tries whilst doing so! Fowles’ love for sevens comes from the

desire to entertain as well as perform on major stages.
