Join us this September and October, as we celebrate talents old and new.
Our events begin on Saturday, 10 September, when Fluellen Theatre Co presents George Bernard Shaw’s O’Flaherty VC. This brilliantly funny play was written at the height of the First World War, and savagely satirises war and imperialism. It’s a script-in-hand presentation, preceded by a talk about the playwright.
On Wednesday, 14 September, On the Edge presents Kick For Touch by Peter Gill. Kick for Touch tells, in jumbled fragments, the story of a love triangle between two brothers, Joe and Jim, and Joe’s wife Eileen. “[Gill has] an explosive concentration
and lyrical integrity rare, not to say unique, among living British playwrights” - Plays and Players.
Join us for the monthly Science Café on Wednesday, 28 September, when Swansea University’s Carlos Nunez discusses theoretical physics and string theory. And don’t miss Poets in the Bookshop with Deryn Rees- Jones on Thursday, 29 September. Deryn Rees-Jones is the author of Consorting with Angels, a book that charts the development of twentieth- century women’s poetry, and is editor of the accompanying anthology Modern Women Poets. Her fourth
collection of poems, Burying the Wren, is forthcoming from Seren in 2012. The evening also includes an open mic session.
There’s plenty to look forward to in the coming months, with Carol Ann Duffy and Gillian Clarke reading on 9 December, and an exciting Dylan Thomas Festival from 27 October – 9 November, with Sarah Waters, Simon Armitage, Pete Brown, Tony Penrose, Ffl ur Dafydd, Horatio Clare, Matthew Hollis, Deborah Kay Davies, Tessa Hadley, and Somalian poets, Gaarriye and Saado.
