ITH the British weather about as reliable as awellie with holes, afestival
wardrobe that hits the right notes come rain or shine is amust. Whether you'recamping outdoors
for the long haul or day-tripping to your local festival, stay cool and dry in effortless fashion.
■ PRACTICAL CAMPER WET or dry,you'reafestival-goer who likes to be prepared. From downpour to heatwave, you've usually got the pac-a-mac or SPF to hand. Astatement umbrella is agreat
tool for shielding from the rain and attracting AWOL festival pals, so stick to aloud colour or print in a super-lightweight model. Parkas arenolonger for geeks -
and they don't have to be boring. Work this season's colour blocking trend and choose abold shade that clashes with your bottom half. Take an item of clothing that dou-
bles up as acover-up and comfy mat. "You can be fashionableand func-
tional at the festivals,”says Yasmin Yusuf, creative director at Miss Selfridge. “A denim shirt is fab as you can sit on it or throw it on if you'refeeling cool." Ahat is another all-weather essen-

tial you can't forget, whether it's a trilby, fedora or Panama.
■ MUSIC PRANCER IF YOU'RE all about the music, com- fort is key to your festival fashion repertoire. Those most likely to be found screaming near the festival stage
should avoid flip-flops at all costs. Thousands of people dancing in a crowded field could result in some badly bruised feet. Acool thrown-on dress is your
ideal option teamed with fierce dance-friendly boots for aNineties- inspired grunge look. Forget faffing with your hair after
copious amounts of head-banging and take the fashionable short-cut. "Thereare many tricks to disguise festival hair -always take headbands and scarves," Yusuf suggests. "Because you'reinacrowd, your head is always visible so the smallest thing like accessories can make you look amazing."
■ GORGEOUS GLAMPER FOR some, the festival fields area catwalk opportunity to flaunt their- most outrageous/glamorous/osten- tatious clothing. This year, cue Indian head-dresses as this season's dressing-up prop of choice. Leave the couturefashions at
home and hit the high street for cheap and cheerful statement pieces to brighten your look. "You have to wear something you're
not fussy about," Yusuf advises. "If you'recamping, it will get abit scruffy and you have to roll it tight in your bag." Avoid the celebrity wellies-and- hotpants combo and parade your own brand of festival fashion. "Don't follow the festival pack and
stick to your own style so you're comfortable," Yusuf says. "Wear something sparkly underneath your daytime layering to reveal at sunset, so you still feel glam."
