such an innovative and diverse array of talent there would be far too many favourites to name. All of the designers on the schedule, from the emerging to the established, have something original to bring to Fashion Week each season, which is what has established London as a leading global fashion capital. “With such a busy catwalk schedule, plus the on-site events and interviews, prioritising can be tricky but I always hope to take in as many shows as I can each day. I’m always interested to see what our emerging designers have to offer. We announced an exciting NEWGEN line-up in June with designers David Koma, Holly Fulton, Louise Gray and Michael van der Ham on the catwalk.” With such initiatives still going strong,

promoting, supporting and nurturing new talent as well an impressive list of established designers, the British fashion industry certainly appears to be holding its own against the likes of Milan, New York and Paris. Rush agrees, “As with any industry,

we’re constantly evolving and adapting to the global market and the past 10 years has seen the British fashion industry grow consistently stronger. Last year the Value of Fashion report revealed the fashion industry to be worth £37billion to the

UK economy, showing its true scope and value.” She concludes, “We aim to continue

promoting the fantastic fashion talent which Britain has to offer to an international audience. By developing London Fashion Week and our LONDON show ROOMS initiative - where we showcase our designers in cities around the world - we hope to further support our current designers and the next generation and provide more opportunities for them to build businesses and realise their fashion careers here in Britain. “With the 2012 Olympics on the horizon all

eyes will be turning to London, providing more opportunities for British designers to attract new customers.”

London Fashion Week spring/summer 2012 will run from September 16 – 21, 2011 at Somerset House. For catwalk schedules and more information, visit www.londonfashionweek.co.uk.
