Simon Fuller of 19 Entertainment and began operations under the name of RM by Roland Mouret. 2010 saw Roland launch his men’s wear collection for the fi rst time, Mr. by Roland Mouret. “I wanted clothes that I could wear myself, so that’s why I originally started my menswear line”, he says. T at September Mouret announced that he has secured the rights to market his designs under his name. He is one of the only fashion designers in the world to have ever achieved this, but how he utilized his victory is yet to be revealed. For his autumn winter 2011 collection Roland has produced a sophisticated palette of olive, wine and nude; very British colours with his signature use of tacks and darts on his dresses. “I like to make dresses that women want to wear and men want to take off ”, explains Roland, “I like to make interesting backs to my dresses as that is what a man sees when he watches a woman walk by.


Women tend to think clothes are sexier than themselves, but this is the opposite. Clothes are a tool”. When Roland creates a dress it is a three dimensional piece, and is only fi nished once a body is inside of it. His zip skirt and jacket combination – the Jacquard – has a biker attitude to it as well as creating a stunning silhouette. T e skirt can be teamed with other items, which is one of the great things about Roland’s collection; everything is practical as well as chic. T e stand out item is the jersey fi nale dress in emerald green. T e maxi dress had a very low V neckline and a zip down its draped back. “T e dress is elegant yet easy to wear”, says Roland, “it’s as comfortable as a t-shirt”. Already Mouret is working on his spring summer collection for 2012 for the Paris ready-to-wear shows. He also revealed his exciting collaboration with Robert Clergerie shoes, for which he has been appointed creative director. His fi rst collection for the label will be available from autumn 2012.
