If you’re looking for entertainment with a slightly different flavour this autumn, check out Momo at the ‘BBC Northampton’ end of Abington Street. The large Moroccan themed bar-kitchen- club extends over two floors and boasts a rather exclusive roof garden.
It’s the sort of place that changes as the sun moves across the sky. Relax, eat and sip your favourite drinks in comfort during the day, then kick off your shoes and get ready to party into the night. That’s not so different from many other places in Northampton but on July 30, Momo opened a Shisha Garden.
You might not be familiar with what this type of garden has to offer. But if you enjoy eating and drinking, and are not averse to smoking giant Shisha pipes, then you’ll love this experience. Each pipe comes with 2 disposable mouth- tips and a whole range of tobacco flavours to choose from including mint, vanilla and red bull. And if you fancy taking part but want to avoid the nicotine, try one of the fruity- flavoured herbal mixes. Momo’s ‘Shisha Oli’ explains the tobacco or herbal mix is covered with foil and charcoal and ‘baked’ rather set alight. This creates smoke which is cooled as it is drawn through water in the reservoir at the bottom of the pipe. For an added kick, the ‘special blends’ combine Shisha with an alcoholic base, such as vanilla vodka, Jagermeister shots, or Baileys.
“We’re very lucky that we can have a Shisha Garden,” says Managing Director Gary Jones. “We have a great outside area with heated canopies. I’ve visited quite a few gardens around the country and I’d say we probably have one of the best. They are quite hard to open because of the many rules and regulations applying to this type of facility.” Gary arranged meetings with environmental health officers and the police before opening the garden.
He adds, “It’s a safe, fun environment and it seems to be appealing to the slightly more sophisticated parties. We have a Shisha Garden menu with a range of kebabs and skewers all cooked by Turkish restaurant, Marmaris, and served here.”
Momo hosts regular comedy nights, as well as student evenings, and is launching ‘Cortina Night’ very soon, with dancing and music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. And if you are looking for the perfect party venue, you can hire Momo for free!
