submitted by Jennifer Lorrain, Anne-Marie House With homelessness in New Hampshire on the rise in recent years, walkers, runners and community members will come together on Sunday, September 18, at First Baptist Church in Nashua to fundraise and find a solution to the growing problem. The event, the fourth Annual Anne-Marie House 5K Walk/Run, will benefit Anne-Marie House (AMH), a transitional housing program for children and families in greater Nashua experiencing homelessness. Since 2005, Anne-Marie House has served the needs of local children and families experiencing homelessness by providing safe and temporary housing, wholesome meals, transportation, continuing education and other support services such as parenting classes and financial literacy workshops. Nearly 90 percent of Anne-Marie House families achieve independent and sustainable housing and nearly 90 cents of every dollar donated to AMH directly supports resident families and children. There is a registration fee. Day of registration begins at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church parking lot at 121 Manchester Street in Nashua. Walkers will get a head start at 2:15 p.m. and runners will depart at 3 p.m. Participants are encouraged to register at www.annemariehouse.org/5Krace and raise pledges to benefit Anne-Marie House. Event highlights include 2008 Beijing Olympic race-walker Joanne Dow, medals to top finishers in each age group, t-shirts for the first 200 participants, free post-race chowder courtesy of Weathervane Seafood Restaurant, live entertainment, and a special series of educational grants provided by a generous outside donor for participants walking on behalf of a school. To register or more information, visit www. annemariehouse.org/5Krace or contact Jennifer Lorrain, Anne-Marie House Director of Development, at 883-7338, ext. 5 or jennifer. lorrain@annemariehouse.org.
