f you’re reading this magazine in a Butcombe pub, the chances are that alongside the fi ne range
of Butcombe cask beers you might also see a handpull serving Fuller’s London Pride. Pride in a Butcombe pub? How did that happen?
Well, for the past fi ve years, Fullers and Butcombe have formed a strong relationship which has proved mutually benefi cial to both of us. Butcombe provides excellent outlets for the UK’s leading premium cask ale in the West Country, whilst Fullers has stocked Butcombe Beers in London and the South East, and also provided advice, expertise, and support for Butcombe in many guises.
BUTCOMBE GOLD (4.7% ABV)
A refreshing golden bitter brimming with character… not to mention citrus hops and fruit. Made with 100% Maris Otter malt, and brewed using a single variety hop… English Fuggles. A malty fresh vitality gives way to a full bittersweet…pure Gold!
BUTCOMBE BLOND (4.5% ABV)
A clean tasting, refreshing, easy to drink premium bitter. Made using the palest English malt (sometimes known as lager malt), with the addition of fi nest Slovenian Styrians and Czechoslovakian Saaz hops. A light and fruity beer with unmistakable citrus notes.
BUTCOMBE BRUNEL IPA (5.0% ABV)
Brunel and his fellow engineers challenged our sense of what was possible, and in doing so changed the face of the world. Brunel IPA is a clean tasting, dry and hoppy, authentic recipe India Pale Ale. Amber in colour, full bodied with a bittersweet fi nish…perfectly engineered!
One form this takes is that Fullers now packages Butcombe’s range of quality ales at the Griffi n Brewery in Chiswick, West London. Starting with kegs of Butcombe Blond in 2009, Fuller’s state of the art bottling plant now bottles Brunel IPA, Gold, and the iconic Butcombe Bitter too. Watch out for Adam Henson’s RARE BREED in late 2011!
Both breweries take Pride in everything they do and see the quality of their products, and their pubs, as a defi ning factor. Fullers doesn’t package beer for any other brewer, and the relationship with Butcombe is one that both companies benefi t from.
As London’s oldest traditional brewer, Fullers is proud to be supporting Butcombe’s growth in this way, and long may it continue.
