ASHTON PRESS CIDER (4.8% ABV) At last – a premium quality cider that tastes of apples! Nose:
Fresh and fruity.
Palate: Robust apple taste with a slight bite.
Colour: Golden Straw.
Comments: Ashton Press is made from all English apples, pressed locally and conditioned in oak vats, producing a wonderful medium dry, strong, golden cider of superb quality. A wholly owned subsidiary of Butcombe Brewery, The Long Ashton Cider Co. was purchased in 2003 to celebrate the achievements of the National Fruit and Cider Institute, based at the Long Ashton Research Station near Bristol, which enjoyed 100 “fruitful” years until its closure in 2003.
At 4.8% ABV this medium dry cider is slightly stronger and marginally drier than say, Westons Stowford Press.

In 2003 two unconnected things happened that have subsequently proved to be hugely important.

uy and Becky Newell bought Butcombe Brewery from founders Simon and Maureen Whitmore, and the National Fruit and Cider Institute, based at the Long Ashton Research Station near Bristol, closed its doors after a 100 “fruitful” years.
Back then Butcombe was in the main delivering only 1 product (the iconic Butcombe Bitter ), so it seemed a good idea to launch a cider and deliver 2 products! Ashton Press business has

The Long Ashton Cider Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Butcombe Brewery, with our North Somerset neighbours Thatchers producing the West Country’s fastest growing cider brand Ashton Press, exclusively for Butcombe. Ashton Still came later ( 2010 to be exact ). A traditional cloudy Somerset Cider, best served from the cellar at 12%C ( 54%F ), through a hand pump…totally scrumptious!
