Public invited to special Sukkot service Congregation plans anniversary gala
Community members are invited to join Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation at a special Ecumenical Sukkot celebration at 5:30 p.m. Fri., Oct. 14. The service will be held in a 400-square-foot Biblical structure called a “sukkah,” located on the east side of All Faiths Chapel. The temporary hut, built by Joel Goldman, represents those the ancient Hebrews used as shelter during their 40 years in the desert after fl eeing slavery in Egypt. The nine-day festival of Sukkot is observed after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday of Yom Kippur. Goldman’s sukkah “will be built according to strict Biblical instruction” and feature “a roof of intertwined palm fronds with no spaces more than a hand’s breadth.” Finger foods, nuts, cheeses, dried fruits and cookies will be served, and Goldman is asking the grandchildren of congregation members to donate decorations, including paper chains, drawings, cutouts, popcorn and cranberries on string.
All Faiths Chapel is located at 9240 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. To coordinate decorating efforts, or to ask about private gatherings, call Goldman at 602-826-0740.
