www.SanTanSun.com Martial arts teaches discipline, more

Children acquire discipline and confi dence at Mike Erickson’s America’s Best Karate while also learning how to set goals, improve their self-images and self-esteem. Those are just a few of the extras that come from the martial arts program in Southern Chandler, which owners consider a “new concept” in personal development for children and wellness for adults.

“As parents ourselves, we designed a program based upon what we would like to see for our families,” says Erickson. “Many of these concepts are revolutionary to martial arts schools and can provide unprecedented benefi ts.”

With nearly 100 karate classes a week for those 3 years old to adults, the fl exible schedules fi t most lifestyles. The Black Belt classes are taught by professional, full-time Black Belt instructors trained in “the latest, most innovative” teaching techniques, according to Erickson, and students learn “through praise and recognition rather than through fear and intimidation.”

Erickson offers free private lessons to make sure students are making progress toward their goals. “Whenever you need more development in an area, we will work with you until you get it,” he explains. “We will use your name and build a relationship of personal growth and recognition so you are continually motivated to return.” Using a “personal development format,” Erickson says children are rewarded in class for doing their best at home, school and in their daily lives. “Discipline and confi dence are two natural by-products of our program,” he notes. “All of our students learn how to set goals, improve their self-image and self-esteem. They reach new levels of respect by thanking their teachers and helping around the house ‘without asking.’ Each student has a positive peer group to help support them in their goals so they can say ‘no’ to gangs and drugs. We reach new levels of self- expectancy with an ‘I can do it’ attitude. This is the part of the program the parents love best.”

Erickson says out of 20,000 martial arts schools in the country, America’s Best Karate has been ranked No. 1 in Arizona and No. 3 nationally by the largest martial arts consulting company in the world.

He says America’s Best Karate classes are affordable, ranging from $69 to $139 a month with family discounts given and month-to-month agreements. Belts, patches, private lessons and video analysis are included free of charge. Mike Erickson’s America’s Best Karate is located at 2040 S. Alma School Rd., Suite 22, on the southwest corner at Germann in Chandler.
