Indoor boot camps for kids and adults called, “Get Back to School … Get Back to Fitness” are offered through BFIT4LIFE Boot Camps and Chandler Christian Church at Bridge Community Center on Alma School and Germann roads. BFIT4LIFE offers three different camp times Monday through Fridays and provides showers and locker rooms. All classes are co-ed with the intent of encouraging couples to work on fi tness goals together. The back-to-school special for kids offers special rates through August. By joining any three days, Monday through Saturday, at any location, receive one-half off.


The volunteer-run community center offered by Chandler Christian Church features a rock wall, skate park, “hang out” area for kids, a café and after-school programs aimed at grade-schoolers and high school students. A second location at Xtreme Air Skate and Jump at Pecos and McQueen Roads in Chandler offers evening and Saturday classes. Wild Horse Pass to host balloon event


More than 50 hot air balloons are set to launch at the inaugural Arizona Balloon Classic Fri., Nov. 18 through Sun., Nov. 20 near Rawhide at Wild Horse Pass on the Gila River Indian Community.


Gates will open at 5:30 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and open at 5:30 a.m. and close at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.


The weekend celebration will feature dawn patrol and morning liftoffs, afternoon mass ascensions, evening glow events and a “Hare and Hound” competition. The festival will also include musical and family-friendly entertainment, skydivers, fi reworks, a Family Fun Zone with children’s activities, exhibits, samples, shopping and more. All ballooning events are dependent on weather conditions.


Cost for any one event is $7 in advance or $10 at the gate. A daily all-day pass is $15 in advance or $18 at the gate. Weekend passes, discounted group tickets and family packs of tickets are also available. Children ages 5 and younger are free. A portion of proceeds from the event will benefi t Phoenix Children’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Food Bank. Wild Horse Pass is located at 48th Street and North Loop Road in the Gila River Indian Community.

Free diabetes workshops


“The Uncommon Cure for Diabetes,” a free series of summer and fall workshops hosted by SanTan Natural Medicine, is held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays Sept. 7 and Oct. 5 in Chandler.

51 Blood donors earn chance at 2011 VW


Those donating blood to East Valley United Blood Services through Aug. 31 can earn a chance to win a 2011 Jetta S, courtesy of Valley Volkswagen dealers. Donors can also register their Bonus Chance Entry at www.vwdealer.com/ phoenix and then deposit at a Valley Volkswagen dealer to earn two more chances to win.


All blood types are needed, but Type O-negative is always in greatest demand. Blood can be donated at several East Valley public blood drives in Chandler, held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sat., Aug. 6 at LDS Chandler Stake, Ray Building Cultural Hall, 1115 E. Ray Rd.; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., Aug. 26 at LDS Chandler Alma Stake, Cultural Hall, 2252 W. Mesquite Dr.; and 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., City of Chandler Police Department bloodmobile, 250 E. Chicago St. Drives are also held at other times and locations throughout the East Valley.


Blood can also be donated from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at the Chandler Donor Center, located at 1989 W. Elliot Rd., Suite, 32 in Chandler.
