Nominations sought for Celebration Plaza honor It’s time to submit the names of outstanding


individuals and organizations who have made significant and enduring contributions to the community to the Chandler’s Community Services Department for consideration as inductees for the Celebration Plaza monument. There are no nomination fees and the deadline is Fri., Sept. 30. A select group of Chandler residents already have their names engraved on the monument located near the center of Tumbleweed Park at 2250 S. McQueen Rd. in Southern Chandler, including Eddie Basha, Jr.; Chandler Service Club; Lenford Calley; Chandler Police Officer Robert Nielsen; and Henry Salinas. The 2010 honorees in line for celebration this fall include Patti Bruno, Lowell Huggins, the late Chandler Police Officer Carlos Ledesma, Dave McDowell and Mary Wright. This year, the city expanded the honor role to include organizations.


Nominees chosen for induction are celebrated at a 2012 ceremony and their names are etched on a brass plaque placed in Celebration Plaza.

Neighbors Ride, rally for hope


A “Ride for Hope” motorcycle rally to raise funds for cancer patients in need is slated for Sat., Oct. 15, organized by the Employees Assisting Cancer Patients Committee at Chandler Regional Medical Center. The fundraiser assists patients with necessities they cannot pay for themselves because of their inability to work, and includes help for patients with utilities, groceries, gas, transportation, rent or mortgage, medication and other needs.


Registration is at 7:30 a.m. with motorcycles or cars leaving at 9 from Chandler Regional Medical Center’s Morrison Building Cancer Center at 1875 W. Frye


Rd. in Chandler. The Ride for Hope includes a scenic route that finishes at Greasewood Flat, 27375 N. Alma School Pkwy., Scottsdale. For $25, all riders will be met with food, entertainment, raffles and receive a T-shirt. Passenger registration fee is $10. The public may also join in the celebration at Greasewood Flat without riding for $10. Long-sleeved T-shirts may be purchased for $10 and tank top T-shirts are $14. Free stroke survivor support groups Vendors sought for Country Holiday Store


Free monthly support groups for stroke survivors, their family members and caregivers are available at Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert medical centers. Group meetings are held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. the second Thursday of the month at Chandler Regional Medical Center’s Morrison Building, 1875 W. Frye Rd. in Chandler; and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at Mercy Gilbert Medical Office Building’s McAuley Auditorium B, Third Floor, 3420 S. Mercy Rd. in Gilbert.


Meetings focus on post-stroke adjustment and the associated effects on those affected by stroke. Registration is required for first-time attendees. For more information or to register, contact ResourceLink at 877-728-5414 or ResourceLink@chw.edu.


Holiday store Area residents and businesses are invited to


participate as vendors at the Country Holiday Store benefiting cancer patients from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fri., Nov. 18 at the Chandler Regional Medical Center’s Morrison Building. Vendor booth space is $30 per table reservation, and an additional $25 per extra table. CHW and all participating vendors will donate at least 10 to 15 percent of Country Holiday Store proceeds to the Employees Assisting Cancer Patients Committee, which will then disperse funds to cancer patients in need.


The free event is hosted by Catholic Healthcare West employees and members of the community. Holiday gifts including clothing, skincare products, candles, jewelry, toys, gourmet food items, scrapbooking items, artwork and more will be available for purchase.
