Neighbors Firefighters looking for ‘three-peat’ at Olympics


A fi nal fundraiser to help send Chandler firefighters to New York to compete in the World Police and Fire Olympics will be held Thu., Aug. 11 at Firehouse Subs, 3245 W. Ray Rd. in Chandler. Hosted by the Chandler Firefighter Athletic Association, members will serve food and visit with patrons from noon to 8 p.m., and Firehouse Subs will donate 15 percent from the entire day’s proceeds to the Firefi ghters Athletic Association to help cover travel expenses. Event T-shirts will also be on sale for $15, and all proceeds will benefi t the nonprofi t association.


August 6 - 19, 2011 Tourney supports CEF


The 10th Annual Golf Tournament and Fundraiser for Chandler Education Foundation will be Fri., Sept. 9 at the Whirlwind Golf Club at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort and Spa. Registration begins at 6 a.m. prior to the 7:30 a.m. scramble.


The tourney includes lunch catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill with silent auction, raffl e prizes and specialty and place awards following the golf outing. Golfers 21 years and older can also enjoy $25 in casino play.


The event generates funds to support Chandler


Unifi ed School District school programs, school-wide and teacher grants and scholarships for graduating seniors.

OLYMPICS: Vancouver, British Columbia was the site of the World Police and Fire Olympics in 2009, when the Chandler Firefighter Athletic Association competed. Teams are heading for New York this month to compete in the 2011 games.


Other fundraisers were held recently at Tasti D Lite Frozen Yogurt in Southern Chandler and El Rico’s Dos Mexican Food Restaurant in Gilbert. About 40 Chandler fi refi ghters will travel to New York in August for the sporting competition, and the unit’s


fl ag football team is hoping to win its third consecutive gold medal. Chandler Fire Department is also sending a basketball team, as well as individual competitors in boxing, wrestling and for the triathlon. Big Play Date at CCC for toddlers


Now that the older kids are back in school, preschool age children and those younger are invited for a Big Play Date at Chandler Christian Church from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wed., July 27 and again from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tue., Aug. 9.


Bouncies, activities and refreshments are included in this free indoor event, and no registration is needed. Children must be accompanied by a parent. Chandler Christian Church is located at 1825 S. Alma School Rd. in Southern Chandler and can be reached at 480-963-3997.
