Showroom lighting

Inviting Lighting The Need for

Nick Wraith, MD of LED lighting solution providers, Lumenal, discusses the importance of lighting a showroom space correctly; “Effective display lighting dramatically enhances the ‘shelf appeal’ of jewellery on display by emphasising the beauty, cut and colour of the most intricate of jewellery pieces.”

Lighting plays a very specific role in showrooms, as Wraith explains. “The fact is, top of retailers’ and other showcase owners’ lighting priorities list is aesthetics. The visual result of the installation is crucial to merchandising, and therefore drives their decision-making process.” So, with the stakes so high, how can the right lighting be achieved?

For Lumenal, the answer is simple: LEDs. “LED lighting delivers this high quality light output without simultaneously emitting ultra-violet light, which is emitted by conventional light sources and can fade packaging.” The durability, flexibility and fact that LEDs do not emit infrared, and

therefore no uncomfortable excess heat, are also seen as positives for LED lighting. As well as the practical advantages, LEDs seem to be ideal for enhancing the appearance of jewellery; “A combination of different coloured lamps can be incorporated into a single fitting. For instance, a jewellery display case can be optimally illuminated by an LED strip light, which incorporates both warm white light and neutral white light, which will enhance the appearance of gold and silver respectively within the one display case.” Lumenal recently fitted out jewellers Christopher Evans Goldsmiths in Poynton, Cheshire, with their LED lighting solutions. The diodes used guarantee the consistency of the specially designed light colours, as well as brightness throughout the lifetime of the fittings, which is expected to be in excess of 50,000 hours constant use. This lifespan is a result of the fittings’ expert design combined with their inherent resistance to shocks and vibrations. Their

robustness eliminates the maintenance costs and the inconvenience of less effectively merchandised displays. Similarly, Display Lighting work closely with leading retailers to develop lighting systems to showcase products, branding and displays. Utilising 25 years of experience, they developed DisplayLED, an LED Lighting system that presents any product in an appropriate level and colour of light to encourage a purchase. The DisplayLED Shelf is an innovative LED lighting and shelving system solution all in one. Stunningly illuminated display cases can be created using the fully adjustable system. High power SMD LEDs in a variety of colour temperatures create a wash of light throughout that suits any application. The Shelf has been designed to match the

requirements of retailers with no compromise in appearance. The shelving supports can be easily adjusted making displays highly adaptable. The slim-line circular DisplayLED profile is available in
