066 MUSEUM LIGHTING / JEONGOK NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM, GYEONGGI-DO, KOREA
Comprehensive plans produced by 8’18” gave installers precise instructions for the placement of light fixtures. The museum’s curved exterior hides a much larger interior space looped into three wings. Visitors climb the stairs to the central foyer and gift shop area (1). The cafeteria ceiling (2) features a series of perspex rods lit from above by LED downlights. In places, the floor and ceiling morph together to form display cabinets (3). Dimmable fluorescents above the raised displays (4) create a daylight effect skylight. Display walls along the side of the room (5). A side room (6) features a recreated cave with mud floor to recreate the archiology experience.

For the interior their solution was to cre- ate a pre-wired grid of circular recessed connection points that could accommodate either a speaker or light fixture, or simply be covered over and left as a dummy point – available should a change of exhibits require them. The connection points were fitted with either a recessed projector (with diffusion glass allowing 60% of light transmission) for ambient light or with a 55W halogen projector on -/+12º adjustable gimbal to precisely target specific areas. Visitors enter the museum at basement level and climb the stairs to the central foyer and reception space. To the right sits a cafeteria above which a series of stalac- tite-like Perspex rods hang, illuminated from above by DALI dimmable, RGB LED spots. From the main foyer, visitors can also choose to explore the exhibition spaces housed within the other two loops of the building. Le Musée de la Préhistoire de Jeongok est érigé face à des paysages qui acceuillirent autrefois les premiers habitants de Corée, ‹ les hommes de Jeongok ›. Archi- tect X-TU a pensé sa conception en harmonie avec ces contours et a ainsi pensé un “serpent métallique” qui remonte à flanc de coteau. L’intérieur blanc et l’extérieur en argent sont thématiquement reliés par un modèle répétitifs de trous et de perforations circulaires, renforçant le thème de la peau de serpent. Développé en collaboration avec les concepteurs en éclairage de
8’8”, ce modèle déguise une grille de points de connex- ion encastrés qui peuvent chacun abriter une enceinte ou un élément d’éclairage, ou être simplement recou- vert et laissé comme un point factice (si une nouvelle exposition l’exige). Ces points de connexion ont été ajustés avec un diffuser de projecteur encastré (avec un verre de diffusion permettant 60% de transmis- sion de la lumière) pour la lumière ambiante ou avec un projecteur halogène 55W en -/+12o, ajustable en précision, pour cibler des zones spécifiques. Pour l’extérieur, 8’18” a également spécifié une plus petite grille de points de LED, ajustée à l’intérieur de la “peau” extérieure en argent. Ceux-ci sont programmés pour éclairer le mur intérieur qui reflète en retour par micro-perforation la coquille en acier inoxydable.
