Have you ever told a client that you wouldn’t perform a certain service because you knew it wouldn’t look right? Do you find clients prefer blunt honesty from their stylist? No matter what, honesty is always the best policy. There are two golden rules that I live by behind the stylist chair. The first is to always be honest, and never perform a service on a client just for the money. The second is to always maintain the integrity of the hair, because healthy hair is sexy hair – and everyone wants sexy hair. Sometimes the best service is the one you don’t do. I keep that

in mind when deciding if a chemical service or a certain style and cut will work with the client’s hair texture, porosity, and/or elasticity. These are the foundations we live by at Tory’s, and it’s one of the reasons that we continue to be a successful salon after more than 25 years.

Why do most stylists advise against using products like Pantene and Herbal Essences – basically anything affordable that can be conveniently bought at a drugstore? Salon products are more concentrated than regular store bought

products, and we get the products straight from their companies’ suppliers. I would recommend purchasing the products that your stylist suggests to maintain your hair’s health and look.

Tell us about laser hair removal... how many sessions does it take to remove unwanted hair and what are the most common areas treated? Hair grows in three stages. In the first two stages, hair grows all

of the time. In the third stage, it grows once every several years. Unfortunately, we never know what stage of hair growth we are in. This means an individual can complete six sessions of hair removal treatment, and the hair is gone for 6-10 months – then all of a sudden, it’s back. When I start a series of hair removal treatments, I tell the patient

to shave prior to coming in. We then do the hair removal treatment, and they don’t have to come back until hair in that specific area begins to grow back. Sometimes, patients come to me after they’ve spent thousands of dollars elsewhere, but still have hair growth. This is often because the hair they want removed is blond or gray and they weren’t informed that hair without pigment cannot be removed. For women, the most popular areas to remove hair are the under

arms, upper lip and bikini area. Women also commonly request hair removal for their legs, arms, face and chin. Men are generally more concerned with eliminating hair on their backs, chests and arms – in that order.

What are the hottest nail polish trends at the moment? Colors? Shellac? Anything bright are the shades for the summer, but these vibrant

colors only work on shorter nails. Shellac is a 14-day, no-chip polish with a mirror finish. Best of all, your nails will be completely dry before leaving the salon! Also, Shellac is a green product that won’t harm your nails or the environment like other polishes. I invite you to stop by Salon Fusion and try it out!
