“Thumbs down, a big ‘thumbs down’ to David ‘DJ’ Bettencourt - thanks for deciding to come to Salem to speak to Republicans in August, we were wondering where you’ve been.”

“Thumbs up Methuen! How nice it is to drive

along your stretch of Rte 28. All the retail/office space is occupied and thriving. You even have ‘new’ construction starting! How about you come north a few miles and educate the Salem planners on how to do it?”

“Thumbs up to the moms and dads who work full-time to provide for their families. I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about dual income families and quite frankly it’s not only a fact of survival but far better for the children. Parents with full-time jobs raise children who understand the value of money, have a strong work ethic, and are better educated (i.e. can afford to send their children to college). The advantage of a stay-at-home parent declines dramatically after children reach the age of 5.”

“Thumbs down to the marijuana bust in Salem last week! When will these stupid prohibition laws end? Legally I can go to a pain clinic and get all the addictive deadly opiate prescription drugs I need but marijuana is illegal? Not to mention the over 50 billion dollars it would add to the economy when we need it the most. This is why many countries look at USA as being stupid and behind the times. Bible fearing republican/tea party-rs need to take their tooth fairy, imaginary, fake god and morals and go away so the rest of us rational, realistic people in society can move forward for what’s in the best interest of our country. I imagine a day in which it’s regulated by the ATF-C (Alcohol, Tobacco, Fire Arms & Cannabis). It’s no more deadly or addictive than coffee. Wake UP NH!”

NH. They only way you are going to straighten this town out, is to get rid of Lyons, Covey and that other woman. We’ve got to get rid of them! They are nothing but problems for the town of Salem. Lyons tells covey and the other woman what to do. Every time Campbelll comes up with a good idea the three of them jump down his throat and vote it down. We gotta do something about these three people. It’s terrible, terrible, terrible! These people ruined our town and our property taxes, it’s terrible. Please don’ vote for these people again, they are no good for the town of Salem.”

“Thumbs up to people who look out for the welfare of their children and others’ children. In this day and age, we need to take responsibility for our actions and reflect on our ethics. People should not have fear of speaking the truth or revealing what they have witnessed due to the

“Thumbs up to inspector Zannini for stopping the Courier business on Chatham Circle. This business is making the neighborhood look cheap and devaluing our homes. Thank you again Mr. Zannini.”

“Thumbs down to the woman whose son was arrested after the domestic incident, where they found a large marijuana growing operation. Why wasn’t the mother arrested? Surely she must have known about this. The house had numerous plants and operations growing all over she must have known. Why wasn’t’ she arrested? She should be investigated also.”

fear of being blackballed, disliked, or being called a troublemaker. Society is going to hell in a bucket, we need to rewind our ethics back to the 1950’s, when people were held accountable and took responsibility for their misgivings and actually practiced ethics.”

“Thumbs down again. Susan Covey and

Michael Lyons stop looking across at Pat Hargreaves and /Stephen Campbell wit your devilish attitudes when speaking. This BOS are not the BOSsses of the town of Salem, they are reps of Salem. Don’t act like you both are above anyone else – (my opinion and apparently thousands of others agree with me) no one that board could ever be as smart and as well prepared and as liked as Stephen Campbell!! Susan has a mean attitude on all boards she’s been on!! Susan, get rid of your nasty attitude please! Note to Stephen Campbell: We are registered voters and we do vote at polls and we admire how well and respectful you are to citizens!”

“Thumbs down. We were watching SCTV- 17 last week at 3:30 pm (blessing of the bikes and BBQ) and there were people drinking beer from cans and white plastic cups and glasses of white wine. Then later certain ones we saw with camera going back and forth (watching them pour the beer from cans) the same ones left on their bikes – driving! What?? Is this sending a wrong message or what? First a blessing, then drive off after drinking! What?? Salem, now what’s wrong? Cops were right there also!! All now on tape! Children/teens also there watching this. Nice message from Derry/Salem, isn’t it?”

“Thumbs up to Salem Manufactured Homes for finally removing their Tattoo Parlor.

The United States is $14.5 trillion in debt. What is being done about it? This debt is going to be a payback issue for our great-great- grandchildren, that is, if there still is a United States of America. Watching our great nation spiral down the drain like waste water angers me and I’m sure it infuriates you as well. America’s management team, if

The right place at the right time. MaryBeth Testagrossa knows a thing or two about decisions supporting the changing needs of aging parents.

When MaryBeth’s mother, Ginny Stahley, had a stroke seven years ago, the family realized they needed more help and turned to Windham Terrace. After her passing, MaryBeth’s father, Charlie needed assistance too. MaryBeth remembered Windham Terrace. “By this time, Dad needed memory support; there was one residence available, and without hesitation, I took it,” she says. “Everyone in our family had to feel good about being there for Mom and Dad,” MaryBeth continues. “I believe I speak for all of us when I say, ‘I put my head on my pillow each night without worries.’”

that’s what you want to call it, is working on increasing its statutory debt limit. In 2006 Obama voted against raising the debt ceiling saying that Washington was shifting the burden onto the backs of our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren. Now Obama is pushing to increase our debt limit. What about cutting out the pork in the government’s budget? Bring in a group of professional managers and let them develop a budget. I bet they could develop a budget that our nation could live with. I don’t know about you, but I

can’t fathom America paying our creditors $196 billion in interest this year. Can anyone of us understand how much a trillion or a billion is? It knocks my socks off. Much of this is going to China and strengthens that nation financially. Why doesn’t our government take a pragmatic approach to start resolving the problem? Here are some ideas to consider: · Since we are no longer the richest nation in the world, we

something with their property and the private property owners at the end of the Mall Road at Pleasant St take a little pride in ownership we will be on the way to cleaning up the eyesores.”

“Thumbs down to the people who are distributing Superpages. These people should be arrested for littering for throwing these phone books on the side of the road.”

“Thumbs down to Selectman Pat Hargreaves. I suggest someone explains to him what ‘plagiarism’ is! His comments concerning the approval of projects with conditions still pending were the same words used by Zoning Board Member Bob Campbell a week before at the ZBA meeting.”

“Thumbs up to the new roller coaster at Canobie. wicked awesome!!”

“Thumbs up to Governor Lynch and President Obama. You are doing a great job!! So glad I voted for you!! You both are intelligent, thoughtful men. Thanks for your commitment to the residents of NH and the citizens of the United States!!”

“Thumbs up to moms who discourage their

children from marriage. Over 50% of marriages fail and the #1 reason is the immaturity of the couple. If you look, you can see if the couple will make it or not. Is one person controlling, short tempered, or overly self-involved? If so, divorce is in the offing.

should cut back our aid to foreign countries. This would include all types of assistance: military, financial, medical, catastrophic etc. I’m not saying eliminate it but reduce it drastically. Let the rich nations of the world take up the slack.

· Reduce our military presence overseas. Bring the troops back home where they can spend their pay in the United States and not in foreign nations such as Germany, Korea, and Japan. Trillions would be saved by bringing the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Defense dollars saved could be used to reduce the debt and provide the needed resources to rebuild our armed forces and replace equipment that is being worn out in the harsh environment of Afghanistan and Iraq. These savings could also be used to ensure our troops receive the best medical care available.

· Resolve the illegal immigrant issue. By eliminating welfare, food assistance, Medicaid, primary and secondary school assistance and incarceration costs for illegal immigrants the government reportedly would save$113 billion annually.

· Eliminate the retirement plan from under the senators and congressmen. Put them into our Social Security plan. Change their retirement plans to be in line with retirement programs available to employees in the private sector. Ditto with their health care plan, have them subscribe to plans like those available to the average American citizen.

· Reduce the salaries and perks of our elected officials. Do not allow them to vote for their own salary increases.

· Convince unions to be realistic in their demands. They need to restructure their pay scales and what they contribute to health care programs. In my opinion their greed over the years is what pushed American industry overseas. Our government isn’t capable of resolving America’s financial issues and we need to step up and start making noise about it. Call, write, e-mail, tweet, whatever, but let them know you’re unhappy and that you want them to change their current way of doing business and have them bring in people who can make changes to resolve our budget problems. Don’t you want to give your great grandchildren the experience to enjoy the United States that we once did, not so long ago? I know I do.
