SHOW REVIEW exclusively housewares
Exclusively celebrates its fi rst decade
The annual June London show pulls in the crowd for its 10th birthday
A
comprehensive mix of buyers from across the industry, and across the UK and Europe, visited Exclusively Housewares this year as it celebrated its 10th
Anniversary. The show, which ran in early June at the Business Design Centre in London, has enjoyed fantastic support from the housewares and tabletop sector over its 10 years. 2011 was no exception, with key buyers attending from the full retail spectrum including cookshops, mail order / internet, department stores, giftware stores, TV shopping, grocery, hardware stores and garden centres, plus a growing number of licensing /brand agencies who are doing more work with housewares and tabletop companies.
The show opened on Tuesday, 7th June for two days, and featured 121 companies, 16 of whom were new to the show, including Aga Cookshops, Ascasco, Curver, De’Longhi and Morphy Richards, and four which were returning to the show after a break. The show’s longest standing exhibitors, who have supported the show for its full 10 years, were presented with a certifi cate of
thanks and recognition for their support, and visitors who had sourced from it for 10 years received a celebratory bottle of champagne from the show to mark its 10th Anniversary. “Exclusively Housewares continues to
fl ourish because of the exhibitor line up, which is of a consistently high standard, and the hard work those exhibitors put in to offer buyers something new and exciting to see. One of our Dutch buyers visiting from Cook & Co was absolutely delighted with the contacts he’d made in a single trip because he was able to take the time to see everything and talk to everyone he met!” said show director, Simon Boyd.
In fact, the show had visitors from over 20 countries this year, with the most visitors coming from Ireland, The Netherlands and Germany. However, buyers also attended from Belarus, Portugal, Australia, Spain and Singapore.
“All these visitors are above and beyond
the group of overseas retail buyers we invite and host at the show ourselves,” comments Simon Boyd. “We target successful buying groups and award-winning retailers throughout the Scandinavian countries and, this year, Germany, Italy and The Netherlands.
We hope the contacts and conversations made at the show will develop into good export business for our exhibitors.” The show is organised by Brooke House Exhibitions on behalf of the housewares members of BHETA, the British Home Enhancement Trade Association. It offers a unique format for suppliers and visitors, by offering great hospitality at the show which is provided free of charge. The show’s association with BHETA also means that exhibitors are encouraged to pool their knowledge of the market by contributing to the show’s database of buyers and potential buyers who are then all contacted by the show to verify before invitations to attend the show are sent out. Next year’s show will run on 12th and 13th June 2012, one week later due to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and will once again be held at the Business Design Centre in London.
