York, as part of plans to create a new confectionary-themed visitor attraction in the city. With the working title The Sweet History of York, the chocolate-themed visitor attraction will occupy a 595sq m (6,400sq ft) space across three fl oors www.continuum-group.com


Aerospace visitor park Wenchang, China


OPENING 2013


Work has begun on a CNY7bn (£676m, €761m, US$1.1bn) aerospace theme park in Wenchang, Hainan, China. The park will be located at the Wenchang Satelitte Launch Centre and will be part of a wider CNY16bn (£1.4bn, €1.5bn, US$2.3bn) expansion project. The 1,005-acre (407- hectare) park will comprise four areas: one for earth, sun, moon and Mars. http://en.hainan.gov.cn

A US$2bn (£1.2bn, €1.5bn) visitor attraction complex is being planned for the Ben Luc commune in the Mekong Delta province of Long An, Vietnam. The 835-acre (338-hectare) Happyland complex is to be fi nanced by the Khang Thong Group and its subsidiary, the Phu An Construction and Infrastructure Development Company. The site will boast a waterpark, a dance hall, indoor and outdoor theatres, a cultural centre and an art museum, as well as an urban area, an exhibition centre and three large luxury hotels. The project is expected to be completed by April 2014. www.longan.gov.vn


Hobbiton New Zealand


OPENING 2012


The movie set of The Hobbit, the prequel to the Lord of the Rings fi lms currently being fi lmed in New Zealand, will become a permanent visitor attraction after shooting has fi nished. Hobbiton, the home of the titular character Bilbo Baggins, is being "built to last" by director Peter Jackson's Three Foot Six production company. The village will boast the party tree, the Green Dragon inn, as well as the Hobbits' houses. www.hobbitontours.com
