MUSEUMS DEVELOPMENT PIPELINE

Museum of Religious Harmony Tirana, Albania

OPENING TBC

Danish architects BIG and UK-based builder Buro Happold are among the team appointed to design and develop a new 27,000sq m (290,625sq ft) cultural centre and museum in Tirana, Albania. The complex will include a Museum of

Religious Harmony, an Islamic cultural and heritage centre and a mosque. The attraction was designed by a team led by BIG and which also included Global Cultural Asset Management. www.big.dk

Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem, Israel

OPENING TBC

Plans for the Museum of Tolerance have, ironically, been delayed considerably due to a disagreement over where it should be located. The scheme was challenged by

petitioners who said it should be relocated since its plot is on part of an old Muslim cemetery. After years of legal wrangling, the

Supreme Court ruled in favour of the State of Israel, which gave the land to the museum. The Los Angeles-based Simon

Wiesenthal Center has now unveiled new US$100m (£61m, €69m) designs – drawn up by Chyutin Architects – for the attraction. www.museumoftolerance.com

The new £74m (€83.7m, US$121.3m) Riverside Museum, which will be home to Glasgow's transport and technology collections, is to offi cially open this year. The new Zaha Hadid- designed attraction is to be launched by Glasgow City Council's (GCC) leader Gordon Matheson and will house around 3,000 exhibits across 150 displays. It will provide the Museum of Transport's third home since opening in the 1960s. www.nam.ac.uk
