Plant Extracts Beneficial for DNA Repair
Natural plant therapies are garnering exciting attention in the scientific community. New research studies from Johns Hopkins University and others reveal that a component found in plant extracts is useful in healing the body at the cellular level and reversing damage in over 200 diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, COPD, Alzheimer’s, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, cancer and others.
N
rf2 is a protein messenger pres- ent in every cell in the body. It is triggered by specific plant
extracts and sends healing information to the cell’s DNA to up-regulate and down-regulate survival genes, which potentiate development during the first 20 years of a person’s life. Around age 21, survival genes slowly dim allowing oxidative stress and the aging process to begin. When re-activated, Nrf2 has been clinically proven to cause restora- tion of the cells at the genetic level. It triggers the DNA to tell the genes to get back to work—like they did when they were young. This activity crosses the blood/brain barrier and is even present inside of cancer cells. (See
pubmed.gov for over 2,000 studies on this research.) Another clear benefit of Nrf2 is
the activation of antioxidant enzymes. Now instead of taking antioxidant supplements, which are limited in their ability to neutralize free radicals, scientists have proven that the body’s own antioxidant enzymes such as SOD and Catalase can neutralize up to 1 million free radicals per second around the clock, effectively reducing oxidative stress, which leads to many diseases. Through independent studies since the mid 1970’s, physicians have witnessed first-hand results using plant Nrf2 activators to reduce free radi- cal oxidation. in harmful drugs. Nrf2 activators can be found in herbs, vegetables and supple- ments. Many of the herbs containing Nrf2 activators simply do not work well, on their own, and some even have nega- tive effects. Combinations of adaptogenic herbs synergistically trigger Nrf2 path- ways to affect genes that inhibit inflam- mation, atherosclerosis and fibrosis. Scientists confirm synergy as the single most powerful aspect when it comes to seeing potent results with Nrf2. Wayne, a 67-year old retired
pharmacist who has suffered with type 1 diabetes since the age of 16, has had toes amputated, lost feeling in his lower legs and feet, suffered from poor eye sight and has been insulin dependent. He described the astounding benefits of introducing plant therapy into his life.
Within three days of using a product that triggers Nrf2 pathways, he had feeling in his feet and within 3 months, Wayne reduced his insulin intake significantly, his vision and hearing also improved. He adds, “I can now ride my bike ten miles every morning and I feel like I’m 20-years old again”. Julie, a 38-year old woman who suffers with Multiple Sclerosis, says, “I have lesions on my brain that affect the way that I walk, my balance, vision and thought processes.” After using an Nrf2 product, Julie stated, “Within one day I noticed my gate changed, my leg wasn’t dragging as much, and by the 2nd week my energy had increased and I was able to walk down my driveway to get my mail without getting tired. My driveway is 900 feet long, downhill; I haven’t walked that far in years. I told my neurologist about it and he said it was the synergy more than the indi- vidual ingredients that was making the difference for me.” The health benefits of Nrf2 may be just the edge of what science has in store for the medical community in the years ahead. Major illnesses could be eradicated. The amazing activity of Nrf2 results in a powerful combination of anti-aging, deep healing and regenera- tive ability like never seen before. In the future, the hope is that natural plant therapies will be more widely accepted and used in tandem with traditional medical practices.
