PLACES TO GO Crafty Mums Go To Market

When Titirangi mum Michela Enna had her baby, she was keen for her creative juices to continue flowing so she took up card making. She found that satisfying enough but the light really went on for her when she started investigating ways of selling her hand-made cards.

“It was a Sunday morning

a few months ago,” she says “and the idea to hold a craft market for creative Mums just popped into my head.” Since then Michela’s

idea has blossomed into a fully-fledged market with 35 stalls and tremendous public interest after only two events. All of the items for sale are

for babies or young children and they’re all made by the stallholders – booties, bibs,

layettes, toys, blankets, pillows, nappy bags, slings, clothes and hats. There’s home baking, live music, a sausage sizzle and face painting to add to the festive atmosphere. “The response has been amazing and it’s fantastic the way it’s taken

off,” Michela says. “People are so thrilled to be able to access so many well-made and beautiful hand-crafted products for their little ones. They love the quality and the originality. And of course it’s an opportunity for very talented people using their creative skills to make gorgeous things for babies and little children,” she says. Meanwhile Michela’s been so buy organising the market, she’s gone

off card making and doesn’t have a stall at the market she’s created. “I’m still waiting for the big idea for something to make to come to me, though looking after a baby and trying to grow the craft market is keeping me well occupied.” The Mums’ Craft Market is held on the second Saturday of each

month at the Kaurilands School Hall, 109 Atkinson Road, Titirangi. The next one is on August 13. Contact: titirangimums@gmail.com.
