kid-friendly path to the roller rink, and excellent place to throw an all-night PBR-guzzlin’ party by the river. The Springwater Corridor succeeds at being all things to all people… as long as those people don’t

biked the 21-mile path daily in 2010, according to city counts, pedaling along the edge of the Willamette River from inner Southeast Port- land all the way out to Johnson Creek and exotic Boring, Oregon. The Springwater has actually been a travelway for 108 years: A street-

car line fi rst hacked out the route in 1903, sparking the development of Sellwood, Eastmoreland, and other SE Portland neighborhoods. The streetcar company even built Oaks Amusement Park (home now to a Wurlitzer and roller derby) on the line to encourage weekend travel. Boom led to bust, though, and the streetcar ceased service in 1958. In 1990, the city and Metro started buying up the tracks, pav- ing it over
