Xandem technology detects and locates people who are not carrying a tag or device. This powerful and cost-effective technology can detect people through walls, obstructions and in other difficult environments. Xandem surrounds areas with small, inexpensive and low-power wireless transceivers. The


devices communicate with one another to form a dense web of radio waves that blanket the area. When people enter the area, their bodies disturb the radio field and Xandem technology detects and locates them.

US BioRemediation is commercializing microbial biological mechanisms for cost-effective


environmental remediation. Initial company focus is remediation of acid mine drainage (AMD) sites where discharge or stored water has a pH less than 3. The company’s proprietary technology uses


microbial extremophiles isolated from the Berkeley Pit Superfund site in Butte, Mont., to quickly extract toxic metals from highly acidic solutions to reduce the cost of follow-on remediation steps, and to reclaim and recycle removed metals. The company is currently expanding its intellectual property base by characterizing microbial growth parameters, determining phenotypic properties and performing metals-uptake studies. Planned work includes: characterization and optimization of macromolecules involved in metal binding and sequestration, and testing the organism on samples of actual mine waste.

Intraocular injections to treat complex retinal diseases have become common and very successful. However, in 5-10 cases per 10,000 injections, an intraocular infection occurs secondary to the infection with total loss of the vision an all- too-common result. The company has studied the problem and


developed a product that it believes can substantially decrease, if not eliminate,


this infection risk. While it is specifically developed for intraocular injections, the concept is relevant to any injection in any high-risk space (into cerebrospinal fluid or joint spaces for instance) or in any high-risk patients (any severe immune deficiency as an example).
