AVANSCI BIO LAB AUTOMATION FOR CLINICAL AND

RESEARCH MARKETS

Founded: 2011 Originating Department: Pathology Industry: Laboratory automation Inventors: Co-invented by Katherine Geiersbach, M.D. (ARUP) and Nils Adey, PhD (AvanSci Bio) Website: www.avanscibio.com

AvanSci Bio was founded on novel slide-mounted tissue dissection technology co-invented with ARUP and exclusively licensed from the University of Utah. Co-founders Rob Parry (CEO) and Dr. Nils Adey (CSO) each bring 20-plus years of product development and business management experience to the new venture. The company’s strategy is to continue to develop lab automation

solutions that significantly improve the quality, productivity and efficiency of laboratory processes.

Dr. Geiersbach and Dr. Adey initially collaborated on the technology invention to solve one of ARUP’s own internal process issues. The result is the definition and development of two distinct tissue-dissection instruments to meet the needs of both high volume clinical labs and more moderate throughput research labs. AvanSci Bio and ARUP continue to work closely in defining the specifications of these instruments, and AvanSci Bio plans to launch both products in 2012.
