/// DINING OUT TOP 5Burgers
BONNIE’S PLACE is a Lansing burger hot spot. The best night to stop in is Monday, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. when all burgers are half off (dine-in only). Those looking for more than a run-of-the-mill patty can order up the Bonnie Burger ($8.25) — which is a half pound charbroiled steak burger, quarter pound shaved ham, American cheese or Swiss cheese, served on a sesame seed bun. My favorite is the Hickory Burger, a char- broiled steak burger with four strips of thick bacon, barbecue sauce and American cheese (quarter pound $7.50, half pound $8.50). 415 E. Saginaw, Lansing
KEWPEE SANDWICH SHOPPE, Lansing’s premier old school burger joint, has been serving up tasty patties since 1923. Located on the Washington Square strip, the place is often packed with downtown business folks looking for a specialty burger. The most popular is its Olive Burger — the homemade salty sauce is perfection. Looking to experiment? The Cherry Burger is a low fat, healthy choice and includes ground beef and Michigan cherries, condiments, pickles and onion.118 S. Washington Square, Lansing
PEANUT BARREL is known for serving cold beer, a serious Long Island and a wide selection of burgers, which are available on white, wheat or rye. Located in downtown East Lansing, it arguably has the busiest

patio dining in the city — right on the lively Grand River strip. A customer favorite, the Olive Burger with fries is $6.25 and comes with Swiss or cheddar cheese. Another favorite, the Rodeo Burger is topped off with bacon and cheese. A spicy choice is the Border Burger, which comes served with mild peppers and cheese. 521 E. Grand River, East Lansing
GONE WIRED serves fresh beef that’s ground daily — no hormones, no antibiotics. Gourmet Burgers are quarter pound and come with a side. Some other options, at $6.25, are the Mexicali Turkey Burger, Red Bean n Rice Veggie Burger, Bacon and Cheddar and the Breakfast Burger. The Half Pound Hamburger is $7.25 and comes served with cheese and a side. 2021 E. Michigan Ave, Lansing
FIVE GUYS BURGERS AND FRIES may be the new franchise chain on the block, but it already seems like a friendly staple in the Michigan State University commu- nity. Five Guys is famous for its simple menu: burgers, fries, dogs. That’s pretty much it. No milkshakes, no chicken, no salads. There are no freezers in Five Guys locations, just coolers, where 100 percent fresh ground beef is used. The restaurants also use only peanut oil and the menu is trans-fat free. 623 Grand River, East Lansing
