BEST BET: Festival

ROCK THE RAPIDS Festival Village, Downtown Grand Rapids Aug. 8-13, 7 p.m. $35 Single Day Admission, $45 Single Day Admission + Early Entry Ticket rocktherapids.org

WHEN WE SAY “ROCK THE RAPIDS,” we’re not kidding; this music festival features so many talented performers from so many different musical genres, ev- eryone in the Rapids is guaranteed to be rocked. Show organizers squeezed notable country, rock and hip-hop artists into six days of shows with a lineup that really does cater to everyone. Willie Nelson, for example, is slated to bring seven decades’ worth of his trademark braids and country crooning to Festival Village on Aug. 10. Also filed under the “still rocking after all these

years” category: Alice Cooper, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stone Temple Pilots and Bachman Turner. If that’s not your style, then go see Ludacris or T-Pain (both performing on Aug. 13). The latter artist may not be on a boat, but his autotuned beats sound just as good from the stage and complement Luda’s rhymes well. Other festival performers include bluesy-rock guitar virtuoso Jonny Lang, country chanteur Blake Shelton and pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph. As if that wasn’t enough, festival founder Denny Baxter is collaborating with Rob Bliss of the Great Lip Dub of ‘11 fame. Want in on the action? There’s still time to sign up to volunteer … but get on it. Reported by Meaghan Igel and Garrett Dennert
