The Word Around Town... Letters to our Editor

Help to Save America

Recently, gas went up 16 cents a gallon in a matter of eight days. Yet, no one complained. Now, Obama is saying the people on Social Security may not get their checks August 3. What gets me is not one liberal Democrat is screaming about this. When George W. Bush was in office, the liberals said he is sleeping with OPEC. So, I would like to know what the liberals think. Oh, and let’s not forget his illegal aunt will get her free food, free rent, free medicinal, and free meds while those who worked go without. I know I will remember all you liberal Democrats. Save America—vote Republican.

Michael Flathers - Salem Freezing Services for Seniors

Although the Senate budget restores $1.15 million in funding for Service Link, an online service that connects seniors with senior-specific services, the Senate budget reduces General Fund appropriations for additional senior services by $2.3 million, affecting more than 1,600 seniors, including those with dementia and those who live in congregate housing. Such reductions could make it more likely that more seniors are placed in residential long-term care services, such as nursing homes, rather than remaining with their families in or in their communities. Of note, nursing homes are largely financed by Medicaid in New Hampshire. New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services reports that the annual cost per patient for intermediate care facility nursing home services was $30,573 in FY 2010. Thus, if only 10 percent of the seniors affected by these reductions obtain Medicaid- financed intermediate nursing home care, the General Fund share of these costs will be approximately $2.4 million per year, erasing the savings generated by the Senate’s proposed cuts in one fiscal year and increasing the state’s General Fund obligations thereafter.

I appreciate Representative Bettencourt’s concern for the seniors, but not sure how much. All well and good to restore Service Link, who do provide a valuable resource

to our seniors, but when you go and cut programs seniors depend on ... Service Link will have no place to refer them to ... just plain old simple common sense.

Government Dependence After passing the huge bailouts of big

Corporations (too big to fail), our debt and loans to foreign countries soared to 14 trillion dollars. Passing a one trillion-dollar Obamacare health program that over 60 percent of Americans said to the President “no way”; he signed the bill, anyway, and Medicare and Business tax costs will be impacted hard! Our only hope is a new group of conservative Democratic and Republican elected Congress persons that will change and revise these ill-conceived, debit-ridden wasteful programs, thereby returning back to a real Constitutional Government! Millions of Americans have seen a reversal of fortunes. Either through foreclosure of their homes, loss of their jobs, lower earnings, loss of health insurance, loss of education opportunities, reductions in pensions, and/or stock portfolios, which, according to President Obama, are “just bumps in the road.” People need jobs, not more increased tax burdens. Business can create this with tax incentives (not over regulations by government). Liberal Democrats in congress and Progressive President Obama have embarked on a crafty plan of an America dependent on a socialist order by the federal government. The goal of ultra-leftist elitists want only an American elite class and a socialist lower class of dependent-entitlement people in this country (such as seen in Europe or Communist China).

Not a prosperous middle class of free enterprise business society that built America, creating jobs and hiring workers for good wages. This is a massive tax-and-spend redistribution of upper- and middle-class wealth from people who have worked to earn their wealth. Benefits will be given to federal and state government bureaucrats (14

Czars) to suppress and keep spending growing by big government.
