AIRPORT AMBASSADORS COMMANDANTS’ AWARD & AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
VOLUNTEER MILESTONES Often someone who wears a uniform and works at an airport is responsible for following federal regulations and is in a position of authority. Balancing security with customer service can be difficult at times but Commissionaire Kathryn O’Neill exemplifies this balance well. O’Neil was recently recognized at the annual Commissionaires BC Commandant’s awards dinner where she was surprised to receive both the Commandants’ Award and the Award of Excellence. “It’s rare to have a member receive both awards in one year,” explains YLW Commissionaire Site Supervisor Master Warrant Officer Ken Pollitt, “but Kathryn showcases exceptional dedication to her position

and exceptional service to the airport tenants as well as passengers.” Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines Station Manager Douglas Torkelson recently sent Pollitt a thank you for the Commissionaires’ “invaluable help in launching our international YLW departures on time each day” while singling out O’Neill for her service.
FLY FROM YLW TO EUROPE? YOU BET!
“We thought this was an extremely successful event,” says TriStar Travel and Cruise Glenna Gillian. “Consumers attending the event made excellent enquiries and we had some great follow-up after the event. People just want the information and this is a great venue to get that info out.”
On March 29 over 800 people attended the Spring to Europe event to learn just how easy it is to fly from YLW to almost any destination overseas with as little as one connection. Travel agents, tour operators and airlines provided information, brochures and in some cases took bookings for summer holidays.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING… Dr. Smart Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Dr. Smart telephoned to offer a “congratulations” on such excellent airport services, especially airport security. He travels a lot, and commends this airport on excellent service (all services) at the airport. This airport has a really pleasant group of people. “We often feel we need to complain to make things better; however we must remember to offer our compliments for excellent service”.
In partnership with Air Canada, Transat Holidays, and Q103.1, Kelowna International Airport handed out holiday packages to two lucky winners and their guests at the event. Jenny Kenyon, who entered on Facebook and was at the event, was shocked to learn she won tickets for two from YLW to Heathrow Airport on Air Canada, £500 spending money and free airport parking. Jon Newman felt optimistic at the event and it paid off as he was the
lucky recipient for the Transat Holiday prize package which included return airfare, airport/ hotel transfers and one week stay at the Hotel Le Royal in Paris.
Don’t miss out on the next travel events at YLW: Hot Sun Destinations event will be held Saturday October 29, 2011, while our next European travel event is scheduled for Saturday March 3, 2012.
