ANDREA BRYGIN COMPETING FOR A REASON

Andrea Brygin enjoys working as a lead cus- tomer service agent for

Horizon/Alaska

Airlines at YLW. Like many people, her day doesn’t end after her shift. Andrea runs, swims and bikes two to seven hours every day, six days a week. Not only does she think this is fun but she’s doing it for a reason.

“My family didn’t really talk or think much about cancer,” explains Andrea. “But all that changed the day when my dear aunt was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.” In a matter of six short months Andrea’s aunt was gone. Her battle was an inspiration to Andrea and deeply shaped her will to

give 110 percent life to everything she does. “They say it can happen to anybody. But until you or a family member is ‘the anybody’, it doesn’t hit home.”

Andrea’s aunt’s bout with cancer inspired her to engage in a battle of her own. Competing in all types of competitions she decided to take on the Ultraman as her pinnacle, taking inspiration from her aunt. Andrea’s goal is to raise $5,000 for the fight against cancer with all money raised going to the BC Cancer Agency.

The Ironman triathlon is intense with 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike and 42.2km run. The Ultraman is gruelling; double the Ironman with a 10km swim, 420.6km bike and 84.3km run. Andrea first plans to do the Ultraman July 31. If she recovers from that long day she plans to compete

in the Ironman three weeks later. Both competitions will be held in Penticton BC. Anyone interested in supporting Andrea and the BC Cancer Agency can donate on line http://donate.bccancerfoundation. com/goto/andreabrygin

The BC Cancer Foundation raises and stewards funds to support research and compassionate care through the BC Cancer Agency. The BC Cancer Agency provides screening, prevention and early detection programs, diagnosis and treatment services, supportive care, rehabilitation, palliative care, research and education throughout British Columbia. “Completing the Ultraman is extremely difficult, but it doesn’t even compare to the uphill fight against cancer. Thank you for your support. It just might help someone you love.”
