A Village is set up in Brazil following massive flooding in 2010

Later, we heard from highly trained volunteers, who are part of the ShelterBox Response Teams (SRTs). Working closely with local organizations, other aid agencies, as well as local Rotary clubs, these team members are able to respond at a moments’ notice to distribute boxes on the ground directly to those who are effected. The dedication of the SRT members is key to the success of this program; and the stories from the field were awe-inspiring. What is more, I walked away from the workshop feeling even more excited than I was only two days earlier. I am excited because I know that this is a fantastic program, one that everyone can be involved in. Perhaps you decide to gather a group of friends or family together to purchase a ShelterBox; any donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt. This is a great opportunity for businesses to get involved as well. You may be interested in participating in a fundraiser dedicated to the ShelterBox project, or maybe you would like to apply to become a ShelterBox Ambassador; there is always something you can do. Throughout the summer, ShelterBox tents will be displayed at various venues around the Okanagan, giving everyone a chance to see this magnificent green box that holds hope and dignity and warmth for those who need it most.

The ShelterBox project will be the charity of choice for the Hot Sun Fiesta event that will take place at Kelowna International Airport on October 29th

, 2011.
