Bringing Gansevoort’s downtown vibe to Park Avenue

hen architect Stephen B. Jacobs and his wife, interior designer Andi Pepper, unveiled the first Gansevoort hotel


in New York City’s Meatpacking District in 2004, they had no idea the brand would spawn a chain of upscale urban resorts spanning Miami, Turks & Caicos, and another in Manhattan. While the Meatpacking District property remains a trendy haven for the neighborhood’s fashionable crowd, the new Gansevoort Park Avenue introduces a more elegant spin on high design. “We set out to bring a downtown vibe uptown,” says Jacobs, founder of Stephen B. Jacobs Group. “It’s still hip, it’s still cutting- edge, but we allowed ourselves to mix things that are not stylistically accurate, suggestive of an environment that is more eclectic.” This varied design aesthetic includes an inviting
