Scientific Review and Acceptance


The MBJP publishes original research manuscripts, reviews, editorials, correspondences and special articles on the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. The focus of the MBJP is on original reports, but other high-quality work that relates to psychiatry may be considered.


The MBJP is distributed in print and electronic form across Europe to thousands of physicians, researchers, academics, nurses and related care practitioners with an interest in psychiatry. Both subscription and access are free and there are no author fees for publication.


Submitted manuscripts are reviewed by members of the MBJP editorial board by a double-blind peer review process with the understanding that manuscripts have not been submitted for publication elsewhere. Papers are accepted for publication based on originality, quality and relevance to the audience.


Manuscript Submission All prospective authors must submit their manuscripts


electronically; a manuscript may be e-mailed directly to the editorial team (editor@sanlucasmedical.com) or submitted online (www.slm-psychiatry.com). An acknowledgement of receipt will be sent to the author within 48 hours, and the author will be given the assigned reference number of his/her manuscript. Prior to submitting a manuscript, authors are encouraged to subscribe to the journal, as having a subscription will allow us to better track manuscripts. This will also allow us, once your manuscript is published, to quickly send you a copy of the journal and proofs.


Manuscript Lead Times


Authors should expect to receive a first decision with reviewers’ comments approximately four weeks after submission.


Instructions for Authors Manuscripts should be prepared in concise, clear, and grammatically correct English. They should contain the following: a title page; a short letter transferring copyright to San Lucas Medical Limited if the article is accepted for publication; an abstract of up to 250 words; and up to 7 keywords for indexing purposes. Abstracts are also required for review articles. Text should contain the following: introduction, results, discussion, materials and methods, acknowledgments and references, figure legends, footnotes, tables (with descriptive titles and legends), conficts of interest, and a disclosure of funding.


Style & Format


MS Word (version 2.0 and above),Word Perfect (version 5.1 and above) and RTF are the preferred formats to receive submissions.


Referencing Manuscripts must use the Vancouver (author-number) style of referencing (i.e., a number series to indicate references). The


bibliographymust then list these references in the numerical order in which they appear in the text.


Images & Tables Tables and charts should complement, rather than duplicate, the


text. Photographs and illustrations must be the following: supplied in high resolution, at least 300 dpi, JPEG/Tiff format, and CMYK or grayscale. It is the authors’ responsibility to obtain permissions from the concerned publishers / institutions for the reproduction or re-use of figures, tables and other materials.


Fees There are no author fees.


Free Subscriptions Access to the MBJP is free. To obtain a free subscription, please


send your contact details to editor@sanlucasmedical.com. Please remember to include your full name, title, medical speciality, postal address and email address. Alternatively, you can subscribe online at www.slm-psychiatry.com.

Copyright and Permissions


Any use of this journal must include the customary bibliographic citation that includes author attribution, date and article title. All articles are made available and publicly accessible via the Internet and are free to use for non-commercial purposes. San Lucas Medical offers a reprint service for individuals who require professional quality reproductions of articles.
