The organization, which helps women with services focused on economic self-sufficiency, self-esteem enhancement and lifelong learning, will honor one woman and one man who have made an impact in transforming the lives of women, and nominees must possess two of the following criteria: demonstrating outstanding leadership and vision; introducing new and innovative ways to assist women; committing significant volunteer time within the last year to a cause that supports women; providing significant monetary investment to Fresh Start Women’s Foundation East Valley or another cause which supports women; serving as a spokesperson for helping women; creating collaborative partnerships to accomplish goals; instituting policy change through advocacy. Past honorees include Chandler Chief of Police Sherry Kiyler and Chandler’s Steve Kovach of Kovach, Inc.

Community Inductees sought


Nominations are open for two people who have contributed significantly to help for Celebration Plaza honor women in transition for the Fresh Start Women’s Foundation East Valley Annual Night of Heroes celebration to be held Thu., Sept. 29 at the Hilton Phoenix East in Mesa.


A select group of Chandler residents have their names engraved as honorable inductees in the City of Chandler’s prestigious Celebration Plaza, a permanent monument near the center of Tumbleweed Park, located at 2250 S. McQueen Rd., on the southwest corner of Germann in Southern Chandler. The city is expanding this honor role to include additional outstanding individuals or organizations nominated by the public for their significant and

enduring contributions to the community. Public nominations may be submitted to the city’s Community Services Department through Fri., Sept. 30. There are no nomination fees.


Celebration Plaza’s decorative wall, adorned by a flowing fountain, displays brass plaques honoring those living or deceased who have displayed civic commitment, leadership, public outreach and service to the city.


Nominees chosen for induction are celebrated at a 2012 ceremony and their names are etched on a brass plaque placed in Celebration Plaza. Previous inductees include Eddie Basha, Jr.; Chandler Service Club; Lenford Calley; Chandler Police Officer Robert Nielsen; and Henry Salinas. The 2010 honorees in line for celebration this fall include Patti Bruno, Lowell Huggins, the late Chandler Police Officer Carlos Ledesma, Dave McDowell and Mary Wright.
