Saturday, July 16 The Hudson Historical Society will honor two Boston Post Cane recipients with a ceremony/tea at the Alvirne Hills House, Derry Road, Hudson, from 2-4 p.m. The two recipients of the Boston Post Cane are: Paul Wheeler, who has lived in Hudson for a very long time and was born on May 31, 1915, and Mildred Emmanuelson, who was born on May 1, 1914, and was one of the first residents of Buttercup Hill when it opened over 30 years ago. Marilyn Rollins will put on a skit that gives a history of the cane, and both recipients will be presented with pins depicting the cane and certificates making them honorary members of the Hudson Historical Society. Tuesday, July 26 The Hudson Checklist Supervisors will be in session at the Hudson Town Hall, 12 School Street, from 7-7:30 p.m. in order to finalize the voter purge requirements. Residents may register or reregister at this time, and also at the Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours.
Saturday, July 30 The town of Hudson will hold the next Town Clean-up day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Town Clean-ups are held at the West Road Landfill on Old Landfill Road, Hudson, and are generally held on the last Saturday of the month. Acceptable items are: Demolition and Building Materials, Clean Sheetrock, Clean Asphalt Shingles, Clean Wood, Brush, Leaves, Furniture, Rugs, Cardboard, Appliances, and Scrap Metal. Branches should be no greater than 5 inches in diameter. No freon appliances, TVs/CRTs (computer monitors), or household trash.

Starting Now The Rodgers Memorial Library has begun taking registrations for the Children’s Summer Reading Program. Hudson parents can register their children up to age 12 for the Rodgers Memorial Library Kids Summer Reading Program, “One World, Many Stories.” Registration is online—go to

Tuesday, July 19 The Rodgers Memorial Library in Hudson is offering drop-in computer help hours from 7-8 p.m. You can come in during the open hours, when a librarian will answer questions and help with specific problems you have encountered when working with Microsoft Office, searching the Web, using the library databases or catalog, or any other library- related technology question. No registration is necessary, and you can come anytime during the open hour. Feel free to bring a flash drive with the document you’re working on.
Thursday, July 21 The Rodgers Memorial Library in Hudson will hold Duct Tape Crafts for children in grades 6-12 from 7-8:30 p.m. Learn how to make all kinds of things out of duct tape, including wallets, purses, hats, phone holders, and more. There will be snacks and a door prize. Every participant gets a ticket to our Summer Reading Raffle. Programs are free, but registration is requested. Middle and High School students can register at

School Activities
Thursday, August 4 Alvirne High School will hold a mandatory meeting for parents whose student/athletes plan on trying out for a fall sport for the coming 2011 fall season, and where unable to make the June 21 meeting. The fall teams include: boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, boys’ cross country, girls’ cross country, golf, volleyball, football, and fall cheerleading. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Alvirne gymnasium. Parents will be asked to sign in at the meeting confirming their participation. This meeting is for grades 9-12 and attendance is mandatory, regardless of whether or not the athlete has participated in the past. The purpose of the meeting is to review the new athletic policies, which were adopted by the School Board for the 2011-2012 school year. If you cannot make the meeting on August 4, you must call the athletic office at 595-1572 and make an appointment to view the video of the meeting. Monday, July 18 – Thursday, July 21 The Hudson School District will again offer a Co-ed Soccer Camp for children ages 6-12 at the Alvirne High School soccer field from 9 a.m. to noon. Enrollment is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are open to all students; however, Hudson residents are given first preference. There is a cost for the camp. Monday – Friday, July 18 – 22 and July 25 –29 The Red and Black Hoop Camp will be held at Talent Hall in Litchfield this summer. The camp will be directed by Shawn Flynn, head coach of the Campbell girls’ squad (defending state champions), and Pat Roye, head coach of the boys program at Campbell. Week one will be held from July 18-22 and week two will be July 25-29. The camp will concentrate on teaching the fundamentals of the game to each age group, so that the player can work independently to improve. The camp will feature lectures, demonstrations, many drills, and game situations. There will be very little idle time! Applications can be located on the Campbell High School Website on the athletic page or by contacting Coach Flynn or Coach Roye at 546-0300. This camp is not a Litchfield school district activity.
Friday, July 22 The Friends of Litchfield Wrestling Booster Club will hold the Third Annual Cougar Golf Classic at Passaconaway Country Club, 12 Midway Avenue, Litchfield. There is a tournament fee per golfer, and pre- registration is required. Checks should be made payable to: Friends of Litchfield Wrestling Booster Club, PO Box 352, Hudson, NH 03051. The pre-registration deadline is July 15. The tournament will be played in scramble style with 4-person teams. If you do not enter a team list, you will be placed with others. Check in will be at noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A banquet will follow the tournament at 5 p.m. Each Golfer gets a free tournament T-shirt, a goodie bag, and the dinner banquet is included. Monday, July 25 The Zachary Tompkins Golf Tournament and Silent Auction, sponsored by Enterprise Bank, will be held at Meadow Creek Golf Club, 5 Clubhouse Lane, Dracut, MA, to raise funds for the Zack Tompkins Memorial Fund. The deadline to register for the golf tournament is Friday, July 1. On the day of the event, check-in registration will open at noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Lunch will be served on the course.
