“Thumbs down to the priest at St. Francis for using the school meeting as his own personal platform. After starting the meeting with a nice prayer he chose to tell the parish that he had made the decision to not re-sign the principal for the 2011-2012 school. He did it in such an inconsiderate and downright mean way. This was not your place to say and do what you wanted to do. This meeting was to talk about the school and how we can move it in the right direction.”

Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down? “We want to be your Mechanic”

“Thumbs down, a big political ‘thumbs down’ to the individuals who chose to invoke their political agenda into CHS graduation. In case you have not heard, graduation is about the student. It is not about you or the school board’s political agenda. If you were really concerned about the graduation you would focus on the students and keep your political agenda to yourself. I mean, isn’t that what you always say—it’s for the students!”

“Thumbs down to the disgusting landscaping surrounding the beautiful library. I am ashamed, that town bureaucrats can take such a generous donation to build the Library, and then show such little appreciation with that absurd display of grass and weeds. Put in an irrigation system!! The new addition to Alvirne is not much better. One of the best forestry programs in the state, and the front of the building looks like a habitat for scrub maple trees. The town can do better.”

“Thumbs up to Ellen. You are an amazing

woman. Someday you will realize how special you are. I hope you find the happiness you so deserve.”

“Thumbs up, way up for the 2 women in MB parking lot, Friday 24th/am. I was in the handicap parking; your kindness warmed my heart, Thank you so much for your help. God Bless you both!”

“Thumbs down to the girl that bagged my groceries—why do you people always put the tub of butter in with my nice soft bread!? Shame on me for not paying attention again!! You squashed 6 slices of bread!”

“Thumbs down to the family knocking the ‘squid-man,’ if your children can’t sleep at night, and are having nightmares, you aren’t parenting right; your family needs some thicker skin. That’s the problem with society today, people like you, everyone has to live to your standards—I’m sure your ancestors lived off the land at one point, you’re probably all vegans anyway. Don’t knock what others do, especially to survive in this Obama economy!”

“Thumbs down to a really loud party on Sunday,

June 26th. Was it really necessary to play the radio that loud? I know it was a party, but come on, the whole neighborhood could hear you. How about a little consideration?”

“Thumbs down. Fox Hollow has really done it now! I know I don’t like to see my neighbors leaving their trash bins for days and days in front of the condos. But talk about overkill. Whoever thought up the idea of trash bins must be in back of the condos before 9:00 a.m. on the morning after pick-up must live a perfect life. Or must not work and has all the time to sit and watch for Pinard! The trash pick-up is like the mail delivery. No one knows what time of the day to expect them. I have seen the trash picked up as early as 10:00 a.m. and as late as 5:00pm! Hey, Fox Hollow, some of us don’t work a 9 to 5 job. Some of us work shifts. The next time I can’t get my trash bin back in its place before 9:00 a.m. on the day after the pick neighbors are just going to have to smell my garbage for a week! Cost me $25.00 to get my trash bin back!”

“Thumbs down to Noram International for hiring all their employees through Metz personnel and keeping them as permanent temps; this practice should be illegal! They fire and hire so rapidly, it’s like a revolving door.”

“Thumbs up to Hudson

School Department. Memorial School grounds finally looks good. With the trees trimmed and pruned, mulch put down, and corners all cleaned out, making it look so much more welcoming and professional. It’s about time the School Department took the time to beautify their schools!”

“Thumbs down to the ‘thumbs down’ about Alvirne softball. It is amazing to me what jealousy does. You can’t control the high school team the way you did middle school, and both your girls quit in high school. I would hate to see if you lived in Litchfield, where they got police and fire trucks. You must really have no life if you are that worried about a 2-mile escort by an on-duty officer. First softball title ever. They should be very proud.”

profanity. Having my 8-year-old daughter ask me what one certain word in particular meant was horrifying. I’m very glad that you were so happy to proclaim that you had graduated to the eighth grade, but perhaps you should be demoted back to the third grad, as you spelled the words ‘writing,’ ‘written,’ and Justin Bieber’s last name wrong. I’m sure your parents would be very proud to see the disgusting profanity you wrote down on the top of the twisty slide for little kids to see.”

“Thumbs up to my favorite crossing guard, Gary. Thanks for helping me cross safely across the street to NWES. Have a wonderful summer.”

“Thumbs up to Hudson’s

Crossing Guard, Denise. You are out there every day during the cold, wind, snow, rain, and heat. You always had a cheerful smile and a big wave for me every morning.

I will miss your greeting

every morning; enjoy the summer and I’ll see you next fall.”

“Thumbs down to the legislature for cutting the taxes on gas, cigarettes, and gambling winnings and balancing that by cutting education funding. It’s depressing to see our own state reps so deeply in the pockets of special interests by blatantly voting against the interests of their constituents. You are supposed to be representing the people of NH, not the oil industry, tobacco lobby, and casinos. You’ve lost my vote.”

“Thumbs up to the way Hills Garrison looks.

The grounds look beautiful. I have been visiting as a grandparent for several years and it’s nice to see tender-loving care finally being done around the building.”

“Thumbs down. Owners and renters move in and move out—the only consistency at Fox Hollow on Lowell Road is the cockiness and disrespect of the President of the Board. We were joyful this winter when people were speaking up about the preferential treatment given to this individual and his personal disrespect for the rules and regulations, which he so readily and vengefully enforces. The issues are still there— where are the contributors to Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down who were trying to make Fox Hollow a nicer place to live?? We were led to believe this winter (and actually advised via newsletter) that he had been requested to step down by other board members, but there has been absolutely no follow-up regarding this process. What is everyone waiting for?? Time to keep the postings going - these issues are not forgotten and will only continue and worsen if allowed.”

“Thumbs up to the Litchfield U11 baseball team for winning the Londonderry Invitational. What a great way to start the season. It was awesome to see the whole team play hard until the last out of each game. Congratulations and good luck in the area tournament!”

“Thumbs up to Griffin for outstanding pitching in the U11 Londonderry Invitational. Double ‘thumbs up’ on your first career home run!”

celebrate their last day of seventh grade by going to the Darrah Pond playground in Litchfield and writing graffiti all over the tops of the two big slides with pink and black markers. Bad enough that you felt the need to declare your eternal love for each other by writing it all over children’s playground equipment, but even worse was the

“Thumbs up. The leading opposition to the Obama Nightmare is conservative women. Why are women leading the charge against the left-wing policies? Quite simply, they have failed and now more than ever, these failed policies are destroying our children’s future. As Mothers, we stand to protect our children and now is the time for all good women to march against the destruction of our children’s future by the so-called progressive left. ‘Thumbs up’ to conservative Moms, you rock!”

“Thumbs up! Litchfield Babe Ruth Indians (13-yr-old) Prep Baseball. I wanted to thank all the players: Dylan Brunelle, Brandon Falcone, Curtis Gagnon, Kevin Hartwell, Michael Killoran, Peter Macqueen, Zack Moore, Connor Quigley, Jared Rowlands and Cody St. Clair. Special thanks to coaches: Pete Moore, Kevin Quigley and Jim St. Clair. This team had a great season with a 9-3 record going into the playoffs. All I can say is they played with “great” sportsmanship despite the horrible rainy season. Even though we didn’t make it through the playoffs, this team showed this coach of (16) years that kids still love this sport and had fun ... no matter the outcome. Great job, guys, hope you have a fun summer and hopefully I’ll see some of you next season … Coach Matt Falcone.”

“Thumbs down. I went to enjoy a nice day at Robinson’s pond with my young kids and there was dog feces all over the beach and along the water. Please be considerate and pick up after your animals before a child gets sick.”

“Thumbs up to Molly for a perfect report card. Can’t wait to take you to Yale to see the campus. We are so proud of you. Love Mom & Dad”

“Thumbs up to the St. Francis Knights of Columbus in Litchfield for their Mother’s Day drive to benefit Marguerite’s

Place. We so appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity!”

“Thumbs up to our current Litchfield Women’s Club members for stepping up and providing LWC with a full board for 2011-2012! Here’s to an exciting new year with lots of new members and wonderful activities for the community!”

“Thumbs down to walkers who stroll on the wrong side of the road with their backs to traffic instead of facing the opposing vehicles. There are comments on bikers not using the so-called bike path in Litchfield, but I have never seen one criticizing walkers who put themselves in harm’s way. Some even walk abreast and are clearly in the road and a few are even pushing baby carriages. These folks are either uninformed or don’t care. I wish the LPD would inform them of the potential danger when the PD sees it happen. Wise up. Don’t let something hit ya. With drivers texting and cell phoning, it could happen quickly and tragically.”

“Thumbs up to the people of Hudson. We have issues with unemployment, budget overruns, and traffic construction. Yet there is one issue that stands above the rest. SQUID MAN. This person is terrorizing our Hudson frog population. I propose a neighborhood swamp watch be put in effect immediately. Hudson frogs need our help.”

“Thumbs up to our favorite farm stand, Smith

Farm on Kimball Hill Road. The plants are healthy and beautiful, the eggs are fresh as can be, and the peas . . . yum!”

“Thumbs up to the bicyclists who ride responsibly. Unfortunately, there aren’t many of you out there. You complain about being forced off the bike path, but fail to understand the danger you put everyone in when you force cars and trucks over the double-yellow line to avoid you. You expect vehicles to slow down to accommodate you, but don’t consider getting off the road when traffic is passing in both directions and collisions almost occur. That’s not sharing the road, that’s arrogance.”

“Thumbs up to whoever picked up the trash along Barrett Hill Road near Greeley St. The road looks great.”
