June 2011 Program Highlights- Congratulations Graduates

Bro/Sis Members and Alumni Achieve! We congratulate our members and alumni who graduated this year from High School and various Colleges and Universities, with some of them obtaining secondary degrees. Their success underscores our work throughout the years; working with them through high school and providing college readiness, guiding and supporting students with college scholarships and internship opportunities. We are so very proud of our members and alumni and celebrate their accomplishments!

Our College graduates this year are: Samantha Welbeck & Susannah Welbeck from Temple University, Abraham Velazquez with a masters from NYU, Marsha Jean-Charles from Wesleyan University, Norly Jean-Charles with a masters from University of Pennsylvania, Javonie Regis from Buffalo State, Mischa Victor from Fordham University, John Paul Infante with a masters from The New School and Aisha Jordan with a masters from NYU.

Bro/Sis College Acceptances Our high school seniors are attending their proms and preparing for graduation! While they can relax a bit now, earlier in the year they were busy going on final college tours, filling out college applications, attending financial aid workshops and speaking with Chapter Leaders about their higher education plans. Members have been accepted to schools such as Fairleigh Dickinson University, Post University, Medgar Evers, Plattsburgh, Daytona State, SUNY Canton, Long Island University, SUNY Albany, St. John’s University, Ithaca University, Pace University, SUNY Albany, Buffalo State, Schenectady University, and University of Bridgeport, among others.

Congratulations Alexis Killeen, Ebony McCallum, Mary Pruitt, Tanashia Fields, Nijah Keye, Kafela Craft, Justin Long- Moton, Tezniek Bridgett, Maya Harris, Mariama Balde, and Jihad (Hardy) Lawson for your recent college acceptances!

South Africa’s Equal Education visits BHSS On May 11, The Brotherhood/Sister Sol hosted Equal Education, a community organization that advocates for quality and equality in the South African education system. Six staff came to the United States on a policy trip coordinated by Open Society Institute. At the Brownstone, the group met with Khary Lazarre-White, Susan Wilcox, the Liberation Program staff (Cidra Sebastien, Enmanuel Candelario) and members (Adeola, Mischa and Zora) who highlighted our organizing activities.
