CAMDEN TOWN GETS NEW NAMAASTE

Located in trendy Camden Town, Namaaste Kitchen is a restaurant from the team behind Salaam Namaste Bloomsbury, and similarly specialises in Indian grills pre- pared in an open kitchen. Dishes are cooked in the tandoor clay oven, on the sigri over a coal flame and on the tawa, a hot iron griddle plate. Chef-proprietor is Sabir Karim, who has a long track record in the industry and is supported by manager Habbib Raja. Specialities of the restaurant, which can seat up to 70, include Peshawari lamb chops marinated with fresh ginger paste, raw papaya and herbs and spices; whole baked sea bass marinated in raw coastal spices; and Gurda Keema Taka Tak, chopped lamb and kidney bhuna. The main restaurant area is described as ‘modern with a

rustic feel’, and includes bare brick walls and a chimney breast with fire place, American walnut pillars and con- trasting cream leather seating. Located in the Grill area are two ‘Chef’s Tables’ offering diners a full view of the theatrical restaurant grill room, which can cater for groups up to eight.
